bass control ****?

my amp has a bass control **** and i have always used it as a way to turn my subs up and down. i have never used my head unit to adjust them. is the control **** really necessary or should i stop using it and just start using my head unit. i have a kenwood head unit and a rockford fosgate amp. i am about to put 2 new 10 inch blaupunkts in and i am starting to second guess the control ****. i'm all new at this so if someone could help me out.

I personally think they are dumb. My friend has them on his L5s in his chevy, uses them to quickly turn up the gain on his mono amp to clip his subwoofers. Unless you really know whats up, dont use them. Use the EQ on your HU to up the bass, if you have the gains set correctly.

Honestly, there are two kinds of bass ***** from the amp manus. 1) adjusts the gains 2) adjusts the bass boost. Both can cause some serious damage to the woofers. With the first, the gains can be jacked way up, this in turn causes serious clipping and with increased use can hurt the inputs on the amps as well as distorting the woofers and sending square waves. The second, has the same effect on the woofers but gets there in a different way. Instead it takes a certain frequency and jacks it way up, (some as much as 18db Keep in mind every 3db is a double in output) this when everything is set correctly is way too much output and then gives the clipped signal.

This is the reasoning behind why I never install the bass ***** when i put a amp in a persons vehicle, unless asked specifically by a customer.

(If my explanation doesnt make sense or I still need to break it down more, let me know)

i just tune my amp with the **** all the way up, along with my hu volume, this ensures i wont accidentally turn it up too much

That might not matter if its a gain style ****... Because you will be re"tuning" your amp everytime you touch that ****.

all i really know is it is a remote punch bass ****. i have never used my headunit to adjust the sub output although i know how to change it. should i just take it out and just use my headunit to control it? also do you think you could try telling me how to tune my amp. It is a rockford fosgate and i have 2 10in blaupunkt subs. should i turn my sub outputs all the way up and just tune it until i hear distortion or what?

Run a search for a thread with the title "HP, AP, or LP?" but since you can only search a word with 3 or more letters use these keywords "pro, n00b, gain". It should be the only thread that comes up.

The bass **** I had was a volume control. When everything was set up, the **** was turned all the way up. That way, I could just turn down the bass by the **** when I didn't want it makin too much noise.

so i'm just not going to use my bass **** and see how it works out and if i don't like it as much i'll just go back to it. so when i put the cd in should i turn my sub output all the way up along with the volume about 3/4 of the way up? then the gain at the minimum then adjust it until i start hearing distotion?

I have a bass control **** in both my vehicles. It is just an easy way to change the bass volume. I use pioneer touchscreen gps in both my vehicles, so getting to the subwoofer adjustments can be a pain (and dangerous) while driving. Anyway, I tune the sub with the HU with the bass **** set in the middle. Then I use the bass **** if a song i am listening to has an abnormally high or low amount of low freqs. The bass **** has a similar effect to the subwoofer level settings in the hu. Just use it for quick fine tuning and you will do fine. I wound't use it if it is an adjustable gain...but just bass volume shouldn't cause you any problems.

see i just have a kenwood headunit nothing special. i mean its pretty easy for me to change it all i have to do is select the sub output and set it. it seems to go by 3s from 1 to 15. i'm not going to use my **** and see if it is easier and if not ill just plug it back in. but would you recomend turning my sub output all the way up and my volume at 3/4 and just tune the gain on my amp until i hear distortion then back it down a little?

thanks but i decided i would try it without the bass ****. now i just need some help with tuning it without it. i've heard to turn the sub output all the way up and the volume only 3/4 of the way up. is this a good method or is there something better?
