JL Audio amp "link"

I am currently running a 500/1 on a 13w7 in a ported box, and I have recently been offered another 500/1 for extremely cheap, needless to say i'll be buying it. The guy im buying it from is very knowledgable on car stereo stuff and says he can "link" the amps so that one of them is used for power and all of the settings, and the second one is used for only power. Does anyone know exactley how this works? I havent had a chance to ask him yet, but if anyone knows that would be great. Thanks.

Your boy is not correct. JL amps are not strappable.

Straight from the 2nd page of the JL 500/1 manual...

Do not attempt to 'bridge' the outputs of this amplifier with the outputs of a second amplifier, including an identical one.

That sounds like what you're talking about..

ok, so are they saying that its not possible? or that its a bad idea? this might sound like the most ridiculous thing to say, but these 500/1's of mine will be replaced soon for something bigger and badder, and since i'm getting it for 125 im not TOO worried about POSSIBLY hurting it...just dont think im trying to sound ignorant, im just asking around ideas as much as i can, just with my budget its more ideal to bridge these two if its possible for a short time untill i can get the money to get a 1000/1.....i just dont want to sound like an *** haha

Lets review: YOU CAN NOT BRIDGE THE AMP WITH ANOTHER ONE!

You can however, take 3vc's to one and 3 to the other. (must be DVC) This is also not a smart idea.

Thanks, thats what I was looking for. Sounds like I might not try it, this is just a sick addiction for my stereo to get louder and louder. Thanks for the feedback guys.

Ok. I finally got a chance to talk to the guy that is going to help me do this, and he says we're not going to actually "bridge" the amps like JL says not to do. Appareantly the way it works is as JL shows on page 16 and 17 of their manual as a master/slave configuration, which if I am understanding correctly is safe. Sorry if I explained it wrong the first time around and was misleading.

I see what he is doing. He will take the RCA outputs from the 500/1 and run that to the other.

I would Y the inputs and then match voltage levels with a DMM...

Yea, I guess I'll play around with it now that I kinda understand it. Can anyone tell me if an extra battery or a cap will help substantially?

Yea, i dont know a whole lot about extra power sources. I just know I've been told that if I was ever to get a 1000/1 an additional battery would be imperative, I didnt know if two 500/1 would pull the same kinda of power out of the battery. Right now with just one 500/1 I get the strobe light effect, I want to get away from that.

You could get a higher powered alternator. What's yours rated for right now?

After a little search I'm going to say that you've probably got a 95 amp alternator.

Get yourself a 130 amp one, that should help some.
