Bass caps ?
Bass caps ?
i see some dimming lights on bass notes and think of adding a cap I have a old 1 thats been sitting around do they stay good after a slow charge up or should i just get a new one its only a 1 farad i was thinking i should get a 2 farad
The ond cap should still be good. You shouldnt need a 2 farad unless you are running something pretty big. Lots will agree that you should do the Big 3 or 4 upgrade before installing a cap. Do a search for the Big 3 upgrade, it will make a difference.
I hope this helped some,

This URL is the best explanation for the Big 3 upgrade. I would recommend you try this first, this fixed many problems.
As for caps themselves, I've heard so many mixed reviews and opinions. Some people live by them, some people think it's a "hack" or a cheap way of fixing a bigger problem.
Either way, I have used caps, and they have never really solved my problem. My latest install includes a Zapco Competition 9.0 amplifier capable of about 2200 watts (but probably a lot higher in reality). Zapco recommends using a second battery within about 18 inches of the amp, no need for caps.
So, I then went and purchased a Kinetik 1800 power cell and put it near the amp. Upgraded the big 3 on my truck and this resulted in no dimming while clipping at about 1600 watts at the time.
But you probably won't need a second battery for your setup.
To complete the story, though, when I had first installed the amp, I had yet to complete the Big 3 upgrade (didn't run from engine ground to chassis), and I had dimming issues even with the extra battery. Once I ran this last wire, all dimming went away.
So, IMHO doing the big 3 is the probably the best thing you can do if you plan to push more than 500 watts.

I don't think I can do that one..... what about a high output alternator or something if I get a cap what one is best I would want a thin one so it fits behind the seat
I love it... we tell you how to fix the problem the right way but nope you still want to do it your way.

I'm thinking that would defiantly void my warranty on the truck if it was something to add on I could see it but rigging the wires on the engine I ll pass its not like I have a 10,000 watt system going on plus I love the part in the paragraph at the end when its says "turn on your car (if it starts)"

are you kidding me? the big 3 is not hard you just replace or add 3 wires....most people replace them to look better but if your worried about warrenty leave the stock wires and just add on the new ones.....
Here is a link to my Gallery that has a bunch of photos on the "Big 4" upgrade with a new Yellow Top Optima battery:

The big 4 are:
1/0 G from +batt to alternator (300 amp fuse needed in-line)
1/0 G from frame/chassis to engine
1/0 G from -batt to engine
1/0 G from -batt to chassis

So it's your choice. Spend $200 now, realize it doesn't fix your problem.... and then the additional $20 later to fix the problem the correct way we recommend... or listen to a bunch of experienced guys and spend the $20 now... and if we're wrong, well, you can just spend that $200 anyway.
Besides, if you think it would be cool to have a cap, I can tell you it's cooler to tell your friends you got all that bass and DONT have a cap... cuz they will wonder how you did it... and you can grin and laugh at them.... but hey that's just me I guess.

And, no, adding or replacing these wires will NOT void your warranty. I replaced my battery to chassis, but ADDED engine to chassis and ADDED alt to battery, so this is certainly an option for you.
Well then you just want to spend $200 on a cap, and not actually fix your problem. I mean, you can spend that $200 because it looks cool, or all your friends have caps on their setups and you want to fit in or whatever, but unless you upgrade your Big 3, you're still going to have dimming.

No, the alternator stays as it is. All you need to do is hook up a wire to the alternator's positive output. To get to it, remove the air intake tubing assembly and the post is on the top of the alternator. Just unbolt it, bolt down the new wire and run it to the battery.
Someone has pics of the entire setup, but don't remember who. It's all pretty easy, though.
