What amp????

ok guys, im getting my new 2008 in april and i am looking to upgrade the system from the get go. i have my eyes on the rainbow sound line and am looking into what am i should run on them.. the truck is a regular cab and i am also wondering if i should upgrade the rear 1/4 door speakers as well. i know that most of you are just upgrading the front speakers for SQ and i am guessing i should do the same. so what do you guys think?:

1. upgrade the rear 1/4 door speakers?

2. what amp should be run on the rainbows?? i am somewhat partial to JL... and i can get some killer deals on the alpine amps through work right now.... PDX-4.100 and an older MRP-F450... i am already running a JL 500/1 on 2 12" W3v3's

thanks in advance guys.

If you are a JL fan you have many options. 300/2 300/4 450/4 a2150 a4300 HD600/4. They will all work.

I like rears because I always have friends in the truck and listen to many music DVD's... All personal preference.

What body style is your 08 gonna be? Reg cab? If so, I would just run/upgrade/amp the fronts. I wouldnt even hook up the rears. Also, that 300/2 would be a good match for your 500/1.

If its not a reg cab, well then, then you have different options. Some of us still use rear speakers because either people ride in the back, or they are running a full audio/video setup.

Let us know,

If it were mine, I'd get the 300/2 like Low and Devil said, keep the 500/1 with the 12's, and invest in a good set of components for the front. Once you do that, you will never even notice the 1/4 door speakers are missing.

Plus, with those two amps....it will make for a good lookin install too.

yeah the truck is a regular cab... so the rear speakers are like right next to me. the point almost right at the side of the seat. so i think ill just leave the stocks in the rear 1/4 doors. now for another question. i am still kinda new to all of this. i thought that you needed to have a 4 channel amp in order to run the highs and lows of a component set. or do you normally need a 4 channel amp because you are running all 4 sets of speakers? so since im running just the front components then all i need is a 2 channel?

correct...the crossovers that come with the component set split up the signal coming from the amp. I personally would just disconnect the rear speaks.

Unless you bi-amp them... Which the 300/4 will let you do from the amp...

i dont know that im gonna go as far as disconnecting the rear speakers..... is there a certain distance that i need to keep the crossovers to the speakers?? i have a nice spot in the truck that will make them easily accessible. also, what is the best way to take off panels without getting the stress spots from where the clips are? the last truck i had got the little light colored stress marks when i took the panels off to dynamat it. any tips?

I didnt have that problem. When these trucks are new, the clips are pretty pliable and let go easily. I've had my door panels off about a dozen times and no stress marks. You should be fine.

There really is no certain spot for crossovers. I have mine on the back wall in an S-cab. No problems.

well, i had my 2005 and that truck had the grey interior and on the thinner pieces like the panels on the back wall they got stress marks on them. i havent ever had a problem with the main door panels but the rear 1/4 door panels got them as well. i dont want it to happen in my new truck its going to have the black interior on it but i still think it will be prone

i got a Kicker 750.1 to run my kicker cvr's. it is rated at 943 watts, so it provides plenty of power. however, your subs have to be 2 ohms, or else the amp is useless...i learned this the hard way...but that is my suggestion. check ebay, you can find them for half of what places like crutchfield and other charge. got mine for $245, costs $500
