What is the right amp?

I just got two 12" kicker CompVR's w/ dual 4ohm voice coil to put in my truck. Both are 400w RMS and 800w max, 800 RMS combined and 1600 max combined. I'm jsut wondering what type of amp do i need? How many watts, ohms, channel, etc? Also, if i were to just run one sub for a while, instead of the two, would i need to get a smaller watt amp or anything?
I've researched it, and since its two subs, i know i'll probably need a 2 channel amp, but thats about all i know.I understand a lot of the other stuff, but when it comes to dealing with amps, and which ones are the correct combination, i get pretty confused.

Thanks for any help in advance

Cody

No need for a two channel.

Find yourself an amp that does 800w RMS at 1 ohm. You'll be looking at single channel (mono) amps for this kind of power and being at 1 ohm.

If you find an amp that does this, then it will probably do roughly 400w RMS at 2 ohm, so you can run one just fine, and then hook the other one up and be good to go.

alright. thanks guys
just curious though, whats the difference between having a mono amp push my subs and a two channel pushing them? better sq? and this may be the dumbest question you encounter. but if its a one channel amp, how would hook up 2 subs to that? unless i'm just looking at it all wrong, or you just twist the wires together?
i've pretty much decided to just hook up both of them at the same time though, idk if that makes a difference.

Thanks

Cody

For one, it is a lot easier and cheaper to get the power you need from a mono sub amp. A 2 channel a/b amp would probably be a little better sq wise but, the cost of a 2 channel amp that would push the subs with 400 watts each (probably a 2 x 200 amp that would do 2 x 400 @ 2ohm) would be a lot more expensive than a simple mono amp that is 1 ohm stable and would run 400 watts at 2 ohm. You would be looking at a mono amp that would do for example 200 x 1 @ 4 ohm, 400 x 1 @ 2ohm and 800 x 1 @ 1ohm. That is just an example but hopefully you get the idea.

BTW...There are not too many quality, affordable 2 channel amps that will do 400 x 2 @ 2 ohms.

Thanks for all the help guys, i really appreciate it.

but one thing has changed. i got the subs today, and i opened them and they're the 2ohm version, not the 4ohm. Will this make a difference in how they sound? or what kind of amp i should look at?

Thanks

Cody

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but i still havn't gotten an amp yet since i've had a lot going on the past few weeks. But now that i know the subs are the 2ohm version, and not the 4ohm, does anything change much?

i heard the zx750.1 or the zx1000.1 would be good for my project. what would be the difference in sound between the two? I know you can get a zx750.1 for around $150 on ebay, but do you guys have any other suggestions around this price or even cheaper?

Thanks

Cody

750.1 will work fine. Yes you need a mono amp that gets max power @ 2ohms.

would the zx1000.1 (or something w/ similar watts) be too much power?

10-4 thanks

oh and with the 750.1, when it says it will put out an RMS of 750 watts x 1 at 2 ohms, does that mean it will be sending each sub 750 watts? or 375?
