kicker set up

Hi Guys i own a 1999 single cab flareside and have a set up in the bed of my truck.

in the back i currently have

2 kicker 12" L7s and 1 kicker L7 15"
an epic center.
a 3 fahrad cap

unfortunatly i only have 4 1000 watt mono block cliff designs (which are not very impressive in my opinion) and am looking for a better quality amp/s do you guys suggest any particular amp to run this set up?

dont get me wrong it still pounds most cars to pieces but when you put the tail gate down and look at the subs they are hardly moving at all and i feel i paid for the speakers so i might as well get the most out of them.

your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Wow. I think there are other problems you need to address before you get new amps.

yeah i use 2 12" and 1 15" in ported boxs set to different frequencies at the mo, they are all kicker l7s though and it sounds/feels far better than the 4 12"s i had in there before.

what would you say are the problems i need to address?

just to clarfie i use the 12s regualy and use the 15" as my sleeper.

Look if you had the 12's bandpassed to different freqs I wouldnt have a problem.

But doing all ported, you are developing destructive and constructive interferences all over the place. Especially bad with the Kicker L's because of the square cone. You might have a NUTS note at 43 Hz but at 46Hz drop wayy down. Could definately hurt SQ and your SPL.

Ok. Bartak your turn.

like i say the 12s are at different frequencies to the 15,when installing i realy changed things around,i tried ported sealed and a mixture of the two but it just sounded better with the all ported, again i played round with the freq on the amps and found an ok set up but the cliff designs just dont push what i hoped for (the speakers barley move)

living in the bahamas dosent give you many options as there are only 2 audio shops on the island so advise is very hard to come by,

i new nothing when i started audio install and i due to duty rates paid $550. for the 15" and $375 for each of the 12"s so now im stuck with them i would like a way of using them.

i could put the 12"s in the cab but the box's would be small,i was thinking about the new 1000 watt alpine amp,
just wanted your advise before i buy because i pay roughly double for anything i buy in the US and cannot return it.

What are the crossovers on your amps set at for the 12s?? The 15??

Do you have a blow through either, or just threw them in the bed?

i ended up with 40hz on the 12s and 60 on 15.(i am limited with those amps)but that is what sounded best.

i have a dynomat and studio foam in the bed and cab and i have stoped most of the rattle.

the set up was meant to have a 6" tube running to the cab but i wimped out from drilling such a huge hole in the truck,
i also have an 8" in the cab (but i could swap that out)
ideas?

The 12s are playing 40 hz on down and the 15 60 hz on down? So the 15 is playing the same as the 12s, just goes up a little higher?

In all honesty, if I was working with something like that I would rip it all out and either stick the two 12s in or the single 15, and call it a day.

Sounds like you have a mess to me:o

Hi Bartak,
i will follow your advise and put the 15 in the bed,
however
i still need to kind a way of putting the 2 12"s in the single cab (as there will be no one to sell them to here) and i still need to know which amps and what freqs will work best.

Willow,

You may have misunderstood me,
Dont put anything in the bed unless you have a blow thru....

Use EITHER the 12s, or the 15, but not both. Mixing sub sizes is a no no.

Do you know what the actual (RMS) wattage of those amps is?

I prefer to have my low pass filter set around 70hz. Just under the point that no voice gets through there (nothing more annoying than having bits of low frequency vocals coming through the subs to me) and it gets rid of all that 'midbass' type stuff that is just always there and just seems like a commotion (sp?) in the background.

How tall are you? You should be able to squeeze those 2 12's in there, sealed probably-Each running off their own amp maybe. Even then, two sealed 12's IN the cab with some decent power should make an 8 in the cab, and a 15 and 2 12's in the bed look like childs play... I cant imagine the subs in the bed even being loud on the inside of the truck.

If your dead set on keeping the 12's and the 15 though, with some work, you can do like Low E stated and run something bandpasses from say 40-80 hz, and the other playing from 40 hz on down. With some work and know-how you could get it to work great.
I dont know how you would ever fit 2 12's and a 15 in a reg cab though.
