is an amp for door speakers needed?
ive got what im gonna get all planned out down to the wiring, the head units gonna be an alpine with ipod controls, and a profile amp to push a 10 inch sub at 500w rms and a profile amp to push 4 speakers at 80w rms. my question is do i need that big of an amp for my speakers or do i need it at all. i want the best claritly and volume and midrange drive my speakers can put out. the alpines the 9885 model. the speakers are hifonics which handle 85watts rms and 90 watts rms. any opinions would be great, thanks,

What if your aftermarket Z2 pushes 22 watts RMS and your speakers are Boston Acoustics S85 that can only handle max 30 watts RMS. would you amplify them or just let the radio push them? I mean as of right now it sounds cool with just the radio. I just bought a JBL sub to take care of the low frequencies
Like everyone else said, DEFINATLEY amp them in your looking for more clarity, volume, and midrange punch. It will make a huge difference over HU power.
Most HU's, even the major brands, dont put out near the power they are rated for. If they do its usually at a crazy high THD level, which sucks to keep it simple.
If you like the way it sounds, then there isnt a whole lot of need to amp them. However, a nice 45ish watt per channel amp would probably liven them up a little

No head unit puts out even close to the claimed power. And even then, even *if* they did you would still want to amp your speakers if you want volume and clarity.

How about changing you factory door speakers if you havent done it all ready and buy some good aftermarket speakers. I dont remember if your using a aftermarket radio or factory. If your using a aftermarket radio try it with your aftermarket speakers and see how it sounds. If you like (thats all that matter) then I say only get the amp for the sub. This is how I got it setup. I think that the Z2, which is rated for 22 watts rms and my Boston Speakers (S85) which are rated for 30 watts rms sound good together but keep in mind I like them.

Haha, that sucks. I remember when I was putting stuff in this truck and all I had in was the HU. I had NO tunes then since my HU doesnt have an internal amp. They were long sad rides sitting there looking at the cd player and having no tunes. Now that really sucked
