Help with Amp Settings
Hey guys,
I have a question about the new 4 channel amp that i just bought.
My existing Sony Amp has a level (gain control). I know what that does. It also has a filter switch for Full, HPF and LPF on the front and rear channels. I have those set to 'FULL'.
Now on the new amp i have all of that plus additional adjustment ***** for LPF and HPF. What are the 'typical'
settings for these? They were both turned to Min (40) from the factory. I say typical because i am wondering what amps that do not have these controls filter at?
Thanks,
tsvsega

For the most accurate answer we'd need to know your speaker setup. Typically, if you're setting up your LPF(low pass filter) for a sub you'd filter out anything above 80-100 Hz. HPF(high pass filter) is going to depend on your non sub steup. Is your 4 channel powering f+r setup or f+ bridged rear for sub?
This 4 channel amp is powering Front plus Rear speakers only using the front and rear preamp rca's from the head unit.
I have a separate amp that powers the sub, and that amp is using the non-faded sub out from the head unit.

OK now it's going to depend on the type of speakers you have installed for the front and rear. Component speakers may have their own crossovers to handle the frequencies sent to the speakers. In that case, you'd probably send the full range to the xovers. If the speakers don't have their own crossovers, for a starting point you can look at the specs on your manual to see the range they state the speakers will handle. From that point you can adjust to your own taste.
Your Sony amp just had a preset crossover level for the High Pass and Low Pass setting. With your new amp, you can put your switch on High Pass, then you have the ability to adjust exactley where you want it to cross over.
You will want to high pass your speakers. With a sub, you can set your filter a little higher because you have the sub to take care of the bass. You usually are fine just setting it at about the same point your sub amp is crossed over at. So, if your sub amp is low passed at say 80 Hz, they set your speaker amp Hi passed at about 80 hz.
as SCrewed said, you can play around with it some till you find a spot that you like best.

I have
-Alpine SPR-57LS component system for the front speakers
-Alpine SPR-57C rear speakers
-Rockford Fosgate Punch P450.4 Amp powering these
I am running my system through the stock head unit, my stereo sounds chrystal clear from low to high volume. but with the volume all the way up isn't even that loud to me. I tuned my amps I put amp gains as high as they could go to make it sound clear, if I put them any higher the speakers would creat distortion which would blow them.
any suggestion how to get my system louder. I even have my ipod interface through the head unit with the ipod volume all the way up. A stereo shop said
with my setup me stereo should scream. the stereo guy said he'd check it out, but he might charge a lot.
any suggestions you guys could give me
