Amp mounting in xcab

Ok I have been searching and searching to find out if it is possible to mount the amps behind the rear seat in an xcab. I found tons of post about supercrew's but none on xcab's. So is there any room behind the rear seat to mount amps on the back wall? Or am I stuck with putting them under the front seats? I don't mind putting them under the front seats but would love to be able to put them on the back wall behind the rear seat for security reasons.

I installed my 4" seat lift and did a quick try on getting the vertical part of the rear sear out and was unable to. What is the trick? It looked like there were 2 large U shaped taps that have to press in and then it felt like it would lift up. However it was cold as SH!% outside and I didn't fell like fooling with it any longer and it seemed like another set of hands would have helped.

Also I have read several posts about people asking about the seat lifts and how much room is left. Well I am 5'10" and I hit the head liner. I have 2 small kids (one in a booster and the other in a car seat), they are the only ones that ride back there, and both their seats fit no problem. The one thing that I had not considered is now both of their seats do make it a little trickier on seeing out the back glass; only really have clear visibility down the middle, but not nearly as bad as say a camper shell.

Im assuming this is for your 2001??? If so...

First off, yes, you have to press those little clip type things back, then lift up on the seat. I believe that was all you had to do (trying to remember this from my buddies 2000, since my 99 is different) You should be able to do one side at a time and get it out.

Im not sure how much different the rear seats are on the 00+ models and the 99 on down models, but I know there are some differences.
On my 99, the first thing I had to do was cut out bracing on the back of the seat. It gives you about 2 inches, but your seat will fold up like a taco w/o it, so I ran a piece of 3/8ths inch metal rod along the back of the seat for bracing...its not as strong as stock, but it works.
Second, I had to bring the bottom of the seat back away from the wall some...Here is a pic of how I did that...

All the duct tape keeps the pieces from rattling if they ever get a little loose, just incase you were wondering

Now, since your bottom brackets are different, Im not sure how you would do something like that. I never really looked at the 00+ ones so I cant give you any ideas on how you could.

Depends on your amp too, the one I have back there is 3 inches thick...

So, it CAN be done, but it takes some cutting and other things...

Yes for my 2001, sorry forgot to add that little bit of info. Thanks for the info. I guess the main thing will be to take the back seat out, but I wanted to make sure how to take it out before I spent a lot of time on it. I am a LONG way off before I get to actually getting eveyrthing in. Amps are a Fosgate 500BD and a Fosgate 200a4???? (can't remeber the exact model but an older one). I still have to build my box for my new Fosgate Power T1. But first things first, alarm has to go in.

No problem.

Whats your box going to be like?

I should get an alarm too...If my stuff ever got stolen I would be so mad. I just live in such a small place that I really dont worry about it...
I think most people just ignore a car alarm when its going off anyway

Oddly enough out of 6 vehicles my soft top Geo Tracker (please don't laugh) was the only one that was never broken in to. My F150 is the only one that I have not had a system in, and yes it has even been broken in to. Nothing was taken, just high school kids looking for cash and a way in to my garage (they would go around the neighborhood and break in to cars and use their garage door remote to get in to the garage and steal wine, beer, etc... because most everyone had a fridge in the garage. Luckily I don’t keep my remote in my truck). The systems were not really what was heart breaking; it was when they took other things. The worst was my baseball glove. Sounds stupid but I had had the thing since I was 15, and it was stolen when I was around 20 (if I remember correctly, I'm 31 now).

Anyway box will not be anything fancy. My initial thoughts are just a rectangle on the passenger’s side so I will not have to worry about going around the seat brace. From my initial measurements I should have plenty of air space, but it will be tight and little tricky if I want to be able to get full excursion without hitting the floor.

Box will more then likely be bolted to the middle seat brace and the end seat brace and maybe some other precautions to keep it in my truck as well. Amps if they go under the front seats will be bolted through the floor, not just screwed in to the carpet. The only thing a security system buys you is time. If a thief wants it bad enough there are always ways to get it if they have enough time.

That is wierd about the Geo not getting broken into. You would think something like that would reall catch a theif'e eye; just cut the top and your in...

Bolting stuff down will definatley make a thief think twice about it...
It would sure be a PITA to get anything out...

Yep bolting things down is the trick. The only set of subs I had stolen was in my Camero, 3 JL 10W6's. I had only completed my install in it about a month before it got hit. I had not figured out a good way to bolt the box down on the back deck, gas tank was right underneath. It had T-tops and I wanted to keep my T-top storage so the sub box went on the back deck.

All the other times they just got my deck, cd's, etc....

Geo I had my box chained to the rear seat.

Let me know when you get something figured out with the seats if your putting the amps back there. I might be trading for an 03 soon so Ill be in the same boat as you...
