JL Audio 500/1 the right amp for me??
I have an 05 screw F-150 with two jl audio 10w3v2 Dual voice coil 4 ohm speakers mounted in a downfire box underneath the rear seat (the jack has been removed). I was about to purchase a rockford fosgate 975w amp, but after speaking with the installer decided to hold off. He STRONGLY suggested that I get the jl 500/1 mono sub amp. I told him that I wanted to get the full potential out of the speakers. Is this the right amp for me? Because its 300 bucks more expensive than the rockford amp I was looking at. Thanks for all the help!

I have the 500/5 running my whole system and it sounds GREAT. I was a huge fan of RF back in the day (and I mean 1990 when I say that) they were fantastic. They are not however what they used to be....since then I've had amps from ADCOM, McIntosh, Hifonics (before their buyout) and now JL Audio. I put this amp in line with any of those....my brother runs a 500/1 and it has great power for what your looking for. As far as i'm concerned there are guys who buy stereos because they want to be heard and those that buy stereos because they want to listen...I want to listen. JL is awesome quality and worth the money. If your looking to do something, get it right and leave it alone....buy the JL. Of course there are other amps that i'm sure guys will start piping up about but between the two you've mentioned get the JL. I have the Stealth box with (1) W3v2 with 250w from the fifth channel of the 500/5 and it's great...two of them with twice the power would be awesome....I think youd be happy.

The Slash series amps are built like tanks...great amps if you can get them for less than MSRP. I wouldn't pay full price for one though.
Just becareful how you wire your subs. I'm not sure if the 500/1 can handle a load under the 1.5 ohm rating. Maybe someone can chime in on that.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!! :santa:

Run the 4 ga wire...no need for a BatCap right now. Just do a yellowtop and Big 3...that should be plenty.

It helps your little little electrical buddies run throughout your electrical system (forgive me, I cant think right now, electrical buddies will have to work for how).
Just think about it, you have 4 gauge wire running to your amp, then from your amp to your ground, then it has the whole chassis to run through, BUT then, there is a 'bottleneck' so to say, where the little 8 or 10 gauge wire from the chassis to the battery holds your little buddies back. It lets them free more freely.
Also from your alt. to your battery, and your alt. ground. You have that big wire for your amps, but the small factory wire just holds the current back.
The electricity running through the stock wire is like a bunch of cars heading into the gates of an Eric Clapton concert on a 2 lane road (read: overloaded). Add bigger wire (The Big 3) and its like adding an expressway to the concert. Much more efficient, and no overload on the little 2 lane(stock wire)
............I think Im just going to go to bed now...
