Volfenhag Amps?

Anyone have any experience with Volfenhag amps?

The only reviews I can find are from guys using them to push woofers. I'll only need it to power some Infinity Kappa's in a Lincoln Mark LT I'm working on.

Thumbs down

Volfenhang amps are absolutely AWESOME- ...at being paperweights. they aren' worth the materials used to assemble them. Why don't you just go grab some Jensen amps from Wal-Mart while you're at it...

Because the Jensons will totally put the V-hag amps to shame, and make them feel bad...

^^^^Pfft, Newbiezzzzz. Everybudy knows that. I bet u didnt know theys werk best on Pyle sub, because da watts work best together wit those 2. My buddy has a sysem just like it, wiht the legacy n pyle, he said sometin about dem going 2gether like bread and butta. its even louder than my other boys 2 15 audiobahns, which are like totaly the shizznizz they set him back like 2g's i think he said. i think he said he is hittin around 243 db'z and he wuz gonna git liek 2 more, so thas gon be like almost 500 db'z, twice as loud..
and he gon port dem 2, so he gun have tite base from da sealed 1's, an loud stuff from da ported 1's...it real easy to port, jus drill a hole in da box, i tink u all shuld try it, it would make ure sysem way betta bros. but hey, imma go stick a fork in a toasta so ya, talk 2 u guys lata

LOL.

One arm would really suck for installing stuff...think about trying to stick your wire in the spring loaded terminal on a sub...haha, God that would tick me off.

I've been installing systems for nearly 20 years now but had no experience with Volfenhag. The owner of the LT liked the looks of the stainless steel Volfenhag amps, and as she wanted me to showcase the amp in her truck, looks were more important than sound quality.

So, I went ahead and bought a ZX-7170 (1200W 4X75W at 4 ohm). I hooked it to my bench system, and much to my surprise, it sounds FANTASTIC! I introduced test tones and checked the output & distortion (digital wattmeter & o-scope). Distortion at high and low frequencies were comparable to several Alpine amps I've tested though mid-range frequencies got a little muddy. On the scope, some mid-range frequencies did get clipped at 50% power+. Average power output easily exceeded the listed 75W per channel. The amp "controls" were easy to adjust and allow for a wide range of HF, LF and mixed settings.

I installed the amp in her truck using the speaker level inputs with her factory HU. Still, sound quality was very good, especially at normal audio levels. Since this amp can be configured for 6 channels, I added a pair of Kenwood 8" woofers in a flat box under the rear seat. The amp was easily adjusted to match her HU and speakers. My only complaint would be the "psst-ta" sound when the HU's D/A converter goes into a quiescent state between tracks. That's a problem with the crud Ford HU and not the amp, but still annoying.

She got quite a kick that someone would think this amp was for primer-coated Kalifornia junkers. She's happy, and I made enough to buy another AK-47.
