Battery Question?
I talked to Pep Boys they said if I get a extra battery(regardless off CCA) for amp, use stock battery for truck an use a isolator it will be just as efficent as Optima(stop dimming, save power, plus see 17v). Is this true?????????
No. If your system is dimming with one battery that means your charging system cannot handle the current load. Adding another battery will give you reserve voltage but is now an additional load on your alternator. Remember your power source is always the highest voltage device. This is normally your alternator at ~14.4 volts. If your charging system is being pulled down to the point that your batteries are now the highest voltage device @ about 12- 13.2 volts (most batteries are built out of lower voltage cells in series. A common configuration is 6 cells like the Optima. Each cell is usually 2 - 2.3 volts) you will soon have dead batteries. An additional battery can definitely be beneficial but not to fix charging system problems. It will help on those days when you want to listen to your system with engine off while you wash and wax etc.
You will not get 17 volts without modifications to your system. You would need a new regulator in your alternator and 16 volt batteries instead of 12. Other modifications may be needed to protect other items like CPU from overvoltage conditions. Your truck is designed as a 12 volt system not 17.

Just look for a different amp buddy. Thats a lot of money and work to do just for an amp, a MA amp at that
Haha, yeah I just said that.
And like Norm said, a second battery really will do no good, unless you listen to the radio with the truck off for long amounts of time. If you have a MASSIVE stereo (lots of current) a new, bigger alternator is just about the only real fix pretty much.
I dont specifically know who would make a 400 amp alternator, thats huge, but I think OhioAlternator and Excessive Amperage make bigger alternators, not sure if they would have what your looking for. (I believe those are the compmanies name's)
Never seen a 400 amp alt that would fit a car, but this company offers multiple alt set ups.
Jacobs has the Accuvolt

I had a feeling I was going to have to do that. But whats a decent price for a new alternator????

No idea really. I see OE Ford 200 (or maybe they are 220) amp alternators on ebay for roughly 200 bucks. They come off of police F150s/Xpys. Someday I will pick one of those up....
But thats only half as big as whats recommended for you...
