Not a happy camper..
Not a happy camper at all..
ok, installed the XA5000, no problem... hooked up power, ground, control, rca's... no speaker connected...
put in a mp3 cd... set it on a test tone 1000hz, got nothing out of the speaker outputs with DMM... connected speakers, played fine... figured Eclipse may have a safety "no output without speaker load"
So I tried DMM with front Polk MMC6500 speakers connected, set it on a test tone 1000hz, before I could get to a setting 22.4 volts.. my ears where piercing, so I switched to a 150hz tone before I could get to 22.4 volts my Polks are dead, one driver is gone (open coil with meter) other driver is still playing but both have a burnt smell to them...Tweeter are fine...
Needless to say I stopped there and set the rest of the system with a Audio CD and used the clipping light on the Eclipse amps..
What in the H@ll did I do wrong, or do I have a bad pair of speakers?? was running them at 75w fine, no problems at all...
I got them at MillionBuy, have a 1 year warrenty, but with a burnt smell, you know what they are going to say.... overpowered..!!!
spec for DMM was 125W @ 4ohms = 22.4 volts AC
amp is rated at 150w @ 4ohms bridged...
DMM is a fluke 87
test tones are
0 dB 256 kbps MP3 from http://www.realmofexcursion.com/

That amp also might be underrated. They do that sometimes.
{Kinda crazy question. How are you getting the 125 watts @ 4 ohms = 22.4 volts AC?

Well, just finished checking out the damage, pas side driver and tweeter seems to be fine, no burnt smell.. plays and sounds great...
driver side, now thats a problem, pulled the driver, it toast.. and smells like burnt toast to... tweeter is playing fine and sounds great, but has a burnt smell... it may just be from the driver in the same door... left it out to see if the smell dissipates

Time for a nice set of Rainbows!!!!
Sorry, that happened to you.
The volts are correct (22.36 volts). I turn off all and set to zero all processing (MX, defeat, treble, bass boost, EQ, etc.). Put volume where you usually would max at, becareful some HUs start to send a clip signal at higher volumes (some Alpines are known for this).
Use a 1khz (0db) tone for your components and a 50hz (0db) for your subs. Disconnect you positive speaker wire and check your volts.
Also, I turn off subs when setting components and vice versa, just for extra protection and peace of mind.

started to get a set of Rainbows from you, but I would be even sicker if I had fried a Rainbow... I can't see where I did anything wrong, but send test tone to the speakers, but d@m, it was just a few seconds... I guess thats a no,no...
Well, I think I just found the problem, I never removed the covers on the crossovers for the MMC6500, I just wired them and put in the hole below the door switches... I found a piece of solder about 2" long laying across the component in the crossover, probably dropped in during manufacturing... if the crossover is shorted and 125w put to it, I'm sure it would smoke something, there were playing fine, but I pulled the crossovers out and switched them to 6db cut on tweeters so they wouldn't be as bright with the new amp, I probably shuck it around and caused a short or something....
going to call MillionBuy in the morning....

the Eclipse XA-5000 works like a champ..
I called MillionBuy.com today, they told me to fill out the RA request form on there website, what for a RA number to be emailed, about 2 to 3 days, then send the damaged Driver, Tweeter and Crossover in for replacement...
so, we'll see.... sounded too easy to me...

Well, so far MillionBuy received them on 09/28 at 11:00 am and as of 10/06, they have not even open the box I sent...
they said maybe Mon. or Tues. they will be checked and inspected.... as far as cost on getting them warrented, at the very lease i'm going to have to pay shipping both ways...
