Question on DMM'ing Gains

Do I DMM the gains with speaker hooked up or disconnected....

edesign audio fourm http://www.icixsound.com/vb/showthread.php?t=27819 said to set gains with speakers connected and a few other sites I looked at said disconnected...

also said to use 150hz test tones on other speaker and some say 1Khz

and one more thing, how does this apply to a bridged amp???

I am pretty sure you do not want speakers hooked up. If nothing else, sending a test tone thru them a 3/4 volume is going to be quite annoying when trying to set the gains. I saw somewhere and crap it if I can not remember where, that had a calculator for setting the gain.

Found it: http://www.subwoofertools.com/forum/setgain.asp

Seems to be a great how to.

Yes, disconnect the speakers.

For your front/rear stage, it's usually suggested to use a 1000 Hz test tone, and for the subs, something like a 50 Hz tone.

As for bridging and setting the gains, just hook up your DMM to the amp bridged like you would the subwoofer. Use the wattage your amp does briged in the formula to find the voltage...
