Amp selection help anyone?
Amp selection help anyone?
i'm new to the whole car stereo thing, so i need some help. i've got a single 10" sub in a q-logic box ready to put in my truck, all i need now is the amp. its a pioneer sub rated at 600w peak, 120w nom. i'm looking for an amp thats got a remote for the gain... i listen to country and rap and want the ability to play with it so it sounds better depending on what im listening to. any ideas? i'm planning on sticking with the factory deck for now so im also wondering what i'd need to hook everything up. i have replaced the 6x8s in the doors and will eventually amp those as well. but, i'm in college and on a tight budget. for now i just want to get the sub firing with decent quality for cheap. any help would be awesome!

You will need a Line Output Converter to hook up an amp to the factor head unit , it hooks in to the speaker wires behind the head unit. As far as amps go, I have a Dual amp in my truck (Walmart cheapo), i've heard that Rockford Fosgate amps are good, along with Zapco, and JL's
You can get a LOC about anywhere; Circuit City, Radio Shack, Ebay, etc. Only about 15 bucks.
As far as an amp...I have no idea. Ive never looked for anything that small.
Im searching for something that is around 100-150 wrms, but cant find much.
Im assuming that sub is a SVC 4 ohm??

just so i know what i'm looking for, the LOCs that are that cheap are the 2 channel ones. how would that work? just tie into either the front or rear two speakers? would that be less effective than doing a 4 channel and doing all of my speakers? maybe i'm just not understanding this. sub is a 4 ohm.
You can get just a '2 channel' LOC, and tap into your front or back speakers, then hook RCA splitters up to the output side so you can run multiple amps. However, you will not have front-to-back fade, just left to right balance. If you want front to back adjustment, then you can pick up TWO of the 2 channel LOCs, or a 4 channel.
I just recently installed my amp using a LOC. I have a SuperCrew so I spliced into both of the right door speaker wires (Front right door and rear right door speakers). That allows me to use the balance option on the stock stereo to control the level of the subwoofers. I just put it more to the front for less power, right in the middle for max. You may also want to turn your volume down, bass all the way down, and treble all the way up and then play with the bass option while listening to a bass heavy song to see what level you like the best. With my subs I don't like going two over the 0 mark (0 mark to me is all the way to the left, or no bars). I usually keep it at 0.
If you need help finding out which wires go to which speaker, just ask.
I also only have a two channel LOC.

JBL and Infinity are the amps me and my room mate have. I bought his old JBL when he bought the infinity.
Both are mono blocks, mines a 1200.1 His is a 746.1
They both good amps, plenty of power once you bump it up to four ohms, its like 300 for mine and 175 for his. Ebay is a good place to buy amps, just choose to buy them from an ebay store with a concrete return policy incase its defective.

On the JL 500/1 there is a setting you can use to help boost performance/reliability when using lower voltage (like a factory deck). The amp also has a remote hookup for on the go adjusment.
