behind the seat

so yeasterday i decided to put one of my smaller amps behind my seat so this morning i was playing it real loud and i felt the backseat getting real hott
then smoke started coming out lmao i guess i fried that amp i guess its to hott behind there

I have two amps behind my backseat -- an Alpine MRV-F345 (110w RMS x 4 channel) & a JL Audio 500/1 (500w RMS x 1 channel). The Alpine has an amplink to the HU, and the hottest I've ever seen it is 122*.

My guess is that amp had issues prior to installation.

I would agree with weaseled. Unless you mounting amp in such a way that it was touching the seat back, there is plenty of air space for cooling. I have an Arc 5150XXK back there running around 500 total watts and have never had an issue. Brypink had his Zapco 9.0 running back there with over 2k watts. Could very well have been an amp problem.

is the amp towards the bottom of the backseat, because that is where the majority of the airspace is. It still should not make smoke come from your back seat regardless of where it is.
