Brypink.. i need help

ok.. so here is what happened.. i had my system hooked up in my truck and it was working fine.. Tonight is dug into it in order to hook a capitator up to it so my lights wont blink.. so i hooked it up and i got horrible engine noise.. i was like F#@! this so i proceded to unhook the capacitor and hook it back up like it was. afterwards i still had the engine noise.. what did i do, and how can i fix it? please help. i really hope i have not done something to my amps..
o.btw.. i was hooking up the capacitor to my amp that powered my subs.. but the engine noise came through my highs too..
i have two amps one to my highs and one to my subs.. i have a 4 ga power wire that is split and run to each amp and each one is grounded seperatly.

sounds like you might have unplugged an rca slightly. Its stillplugged in as far as the center pin is concerned but the outer sheild is pulled away far enough to not make contact. Very easy to miss cause it still looks plugged in.

Definately check your RCA's, check your grounds...do you have them grounded at the same spot? Are your gounds the same size as your power cables (for each amp)? What HU are you using and where/how is it grounded? With the stock location (factory harness)? It could be your HU. It can be numerous things...your amps, grounds, HU, RCA's, etc. It could even be your alternator going bad (believe it or not). You could try a ground loop isolator from radio shack. It's basically a process of elimination. Start w/ your grounds and RCA's.

Also, forget about the cap...do a big 3 upgrade first and upgrade your battery. If you still have dimming...upgrade your altenator. Caps dont fix the problem...just add too it.

Try switching HU's if you can...see what that does. But, if it wasn't there before...I kinda tend to agree with nothinbutaford about knocking something loose.

just by having one of the rcas slightly unplugged will do it every time. VERY VERY easy to oversee especially cause its prob right in front of you.

just for sh&giggles unhook the cap and see if it disappears. Thats the last thing you did, I would start there. And I know your thinking "I just finished hooking it up " I know I hate undoing things too.

Cool, glad you got it figured out. If the problem wasn't there before and all the RCA's were connected right...I knew it would have to be the HU.
