Question protect mode

my amp, Clarion APA250, keeps switching to protect mode when sub, dvc Hifonics Atlas, hits hard. I am not sure whether its because i only used 8 gauge wire instead of my usual 4 guage, or if it is because of something else.
my old amp, Boss 250 runnig the same sub from the same power source has no problem aside from gettling a little on the warm side.
please help man, I have installed about 2 dozen amps and this is the first time i have taken an amp from the box and have this kinda prob!

gotta be someone who knows something. by the way the gain is all the way down and bass boost at +6 and cuts off. if the bass boost is off and gain down all the way then cuts off

it could be from not having 4 gauge wire, if it is supposed to take 4 gauge in, " not supplying enough voltage " when you hit real hard bass notes or possible of over working the amp, does the amp get real hot when beating on it ? how high is the gain set, also possible of having a internal short

try getting a volt meter and see how low the voltage goes b4 shutting down into protection mode, i will drop normally but if it goes really low good chance of the 8 gauge not being sufficent enough

I think you are on the right track. Check that voltage drop.

It depends. If it is a dual 4 ohm voice coil sub, you can only wire it to 2 or 8 ohms. If it is dual 2 ohm voice coils, you can wire it to 1 or 4 ohm.
