Angry A little trouble

Hey I have a Kicker 600.1 powering a JL stealthbox with a JL 10w3v2 sub. Recently I have been blowing my 60 amp fuse in my distribution block. I replaced the fused block with an unfused (like an idiot) tonight I lost my sub completely. Any ideas? I only had my amp turned up half way, and my sub never even started to sound like crap it just quit. I have blown a few subs and I always got the tell tale sound to turn it down, not this time. I do have power to my amp just no sound from my sub. Does anyone know if JL subs will just quit all together when blown?

Have you hooked the amp up to another speaker to determine if its still good? Also, do a resistance check on the sub...

My gut reaction is the amp went south. A speaker can quit without warning. I had an M&M Godfather do it. It just froze up. I assume the VC melted and that was that. The blowing fuses is what makes me think the amp bit it. The amp is 2 ohm stable so it shouldn't have overloaded like that unless the sub has some serious issues. I've seen an amp get goofy and start blowing fuses all the time under normal load. Probably by pulling the inline fuse out of the loop the amp overheated and cooked something inside. Regardless the amp was dying anyway, if the sub is still working that is.

Try checking all your wiring first. Make sure you have a good size ground/power wire on the amp. At least an 8 guage wire for that setup. Check all your speaker connections and low level hook ups. If you're seeing a power light then the remote wire should be working. Check it anyway.

Hook up the speaker to soemthing else. Even a home stereo system just to see if it works. Then see if you can get a speaker on the amp. If you got an old stock door speaker out of your truck that'll work. Just don't turn it up loud or that speaker will most assuredly turn into a paperweight with a touch of smoke. (I did that once just for giglles)

Hopefully it's something simple. If not hopefully you are still under warranty. Have fun waiting for 8 weeks for a refurb unit if that's the case. Good luck.

Thanks, I cooked the voice coils in my sub. If you guys have a sub-sonic filter on your amps use it, I guess that they are only meant to be turned off if your pushing big 12's or 15's. Thanks again. By the way a 10w3v2 about $216.00 turns out JL only offers a 90 day warranty for self installation.
Later!
