Need help with amp choice

Need some help with choosing an amp. I recently had my Kenwood DDX-7017 installed and had to wait off on installing my mids due to that fact that they are 2 ohm mids.

Any ideas on what to power these speakers with?

I have:

Front - Infinity Kappa 6x8 Component Set 2 ohm 100 Watts RMS
Rear - Infinity Kappa 6x8 2-Way Set 2 Ohm 100 Watts RMS

My Choices to date:

*** JL Audio E4300 ***
# RMS Power Rating (14.4V):
* 4 ohms: 70 watts x 4 chan.
* 2 ohms: 110 watts x 4 chan.
* Bridged (4 ohms): 220 watts x 2 chan.
* Bridged (8 ohms): 140 watts x 2 chan.

# RMS Power Rating (12.5V):
* 4 ohms: 45 watts x 4 chan.
* 2 ohms: 75 watts x 4 chan.
* Bridged (4 ohms): 150 watts x 2 chan.
* Bridged (8 ohms): 90 watts x 2 chan.

-or-

*** Kenwood Excelon KAC-X541 ***
# Continuous Power Output @ 4 Ohms Stereo: 60 Watts (rms) x 4
# Continuous Power Output @ 2 Ohms Stereo: 120 Watts (rms) x 4
# Continuous Power Output @ 4 Ohms Bridged: 240 Watts (rms) x 2

Should I be getting a 2 ohm stable spec amp? Any suggestions? Over power is better than under powering or vice versa?

Thanks!!!

Either of those is fine. Both(and almost all commonly available amps) are OK to use into 2 ohms when NOT bridged. However, your sound will be "thin" sounding with no subs, especially with 4 speakers and good amplification. You are going to hear virtually nothing below about 70hz at any audible level. But that may be what you want.

I just want clean sound...I might consider one of those super small subs just to put some sort of bass. I want to hear how it is now...a lot of people have different opinions on sound and all I really want it something similar to stock, just more crisp and a tad bit more bass.

Thanks for the info...Ill definately get a sub if its too much treble sounding...

I beleive the reference is 4ohm 70w and the Perfects are 3ohm 100w.
Forget about the 14v specs and only look at the 12v specs.
The hishest SPL (clean/tight/crisp sound) is Focal then Diamond Audio which will match the clean power of the JL better then the Infinity's.

I think you got a little messed up there on a couple things.

Really, you want to pay attention to the 14 volt specs, and not so much the 12 volt. When you car is running, your really getting in the area of 13.8 to 14.4 volts or around there. Only time you will really see 12 volts is with the key turned back (car off) or with a bad electrical system.

Also, I think you meant SQ instead of SPL. SQ stands for sound quality, which is your clean, tight, crisp sound as you mentioned, and SPL (sound pressure level) is loudness.

Not trying to mock you or anything, so dont take it that way. Just fixing some mixed around info

I, for one, go with Audiobahn all the way around. Inexpensive amps that sound great. Check out caraudiodeals.com.
Again, no, I don't work for Audiobahn or caraudiodeals.com. They are just great amps/speakers (IMO) and the cheapest dude to order from.

The new Kappa line is rated at 2ohms for both those speakers mentioned. Pretty nice to get the most out of an amp! Out of those two choices I would go with the JL one. I would normally say just run the rears off the HU, but since these speakers are 2 ohm, that might be difficult. SO a 4 Channel amp would be the way to go. I would also recommend amps from Arc Audio, MTX, Alpine, Kicker just to name a few. Cant really go wrong with the JL though.
