Hmmm, Id still try to get ahold of another speaker/s to put on the amp and see what it does. Im kind of thinking subs to, its wierd that they check out ok, but once they are on the amp stuff can get different.

I really cant think of something that would cause it at the moment.
Im ready to go to bed though, so Ill get back to you tomarrow, but you try to find a differnt speaker to hook to it and see what happens.

Went to a local Kicker Dealer to have my system checked out. All the wiring was correct so it wasn't me. They suspected it was the subs so they installed a new pair to rule that out. Amp still shut off. Last thing they said was that there had been a bad batch of kicker amps built and this could be one. They suggested to contact Kicker to find out if this was one. I told them I'd let them know later. I called Kicker myself today. The tech specialist stated he hadn't heard of bad amps being sold. He went over my wiring and said everything seems to be fine. He asked if I upgraded the battery's ground wire.(the manual suggests to do so). I told him I hadn't. He said that could be the problem b/c the amp cannot draw enough amperage. He stated this amp KX 800.4 draws as much juice as the KX 1200. The amp cannot complete the full power circle b/c of not enough ground. He asked me to try that before sending it to them. If that didn't work, he suggested I send the amp to them to have it checked out. Do you think that could be the problem. As indicated before, the voltage seems to be fine at the amp 13.5+/-.

Is that 13.5 with the engine running or off? If running, I would think it needs to be higher. Should be in the 14.4 range.

Check your voltage at the battery itself. Should be over 14 volts when running. If it is, then you are getting voltage loss along your power cable. What size power cable are you running?

4 awg is fine. You just need to figure out if the voltage loss is before or after the cable run. Check at the battery with the engine running to see what you get.

well i'm gonna be a ***** and give an update to my original situation

just bought an Arc Audio 2050 CXL listed here .

I know it's only rated @ 230W @ 4ohms, but it'll work well I think with my little IDQ 10. Made sure it's got insurance as well, I'm sick of the headaches I've had with my car audio...

whatcha think boys?

That is wild. I was watching that amp. I just purchased the 2050XXK and was gonna maybe buy the 2050CXL too. I just can not get enough Arc amps. Of course, I am trying to set up 3 systems in 3 vehicles. You will love that amp. Awesome amps.
