Thinking about doing more for my system
Thinking about doing more for my system
Well, Ive upgraded my HU and Ive got new speakers all the way around.
Eventually, I wont to take it to the next level.
Im thinking about buying an amp, and maybe a sub if I can squeeze it in the budget (but thats something I want to do eventually either way).
So, knowing where I want to go...what kind of amp should I look at? Or should I look at two? I want to put the sub under the pass/middle side of my rear seat, then put the amp(s) under the driver's side of the rear (or I could put one under one of the seats if I had to).
Im not familiar with amps, what brands are good, and I dont really know about the electrical ratings and such (how many channels do I need???).
I would probably only run a single 10" sub since I dont need a whole lot of bass, just more than the 6x8s can give me.
And my budget would probably be $500 for the sub, box, amp(s), and all misc. wiring and such...
Thanks for the suggestions.

Alot depends on how far you actually want to go with it and how you want to set it up. I would look on ebay for 5 channel amps. The Alpine 5 channel would be a pretty good choice. You can get numerous subs for less than $100 and find a premade box on ebay or www.supercrewsound.com, www.musicmoose.net, there are others that make them as well. Keep in mind quality is not cheap. You can get quantity for less.
Well to power the sub you only need one channel, but a 5 channel would power your door speakers as well as the sub. That would save you money in wiring/installion hassels, etc. Decent brands for amps in that price range would propablly be Phoenix gold, hifonics, US amps, alpine, lanzar opti drives, maybe. If you go with a 5-channel you are most likely looking at 200 to 300 watts off the mono channel, so some subs to look at if you went that route would be Image Dynamics ID10 or the IDQ 10 DVC, ED 11kv2 www.edesignaudio.com, maybe the kicker cvr 10, really anything that works off that wattage and will fit.
But if you went with just a mono amp for the sub, then you would have more options, but since you didnt really specify i think the 5 channel would be a good choice.

I added a single 10" sub to my SCab and had a tough time finding a sub that fit in the shallow box that fits under the rear seat that could handle the power I was feeding it(500WRMS). Theres lots of subs that can handle the power, but very few that fit in such a shallow area. I ended using a Kicker Solo-baric round. It sounds alright, but I wish there was room for a 12.
