I have 05 Scab w/ 6cd in dash and want to keep it. Also I don't really need a sub. I just wanted to know if anyone wanted to help a newbie to the site (as well as car audio) out with deciding on good replacement speakers and amp, and a basic idea of placement of that amp and wiring.

your best bet would be to replace your factory 5X7/6X8's with a set of speakers(brand of your choice of course)
1. Kenwood
2. MTX
3. Pioneer or whatever you like
Find an amp that will match the RMS power of the speakers and you're good to go. You can fit an amp in the back of the rear seat but it may be a tight fit but it is do-able. Run your wires under the carpet and kick panel. That should be a good start for you. (thats how I did mine)

As said, easiest way is to get a nice set of 5x7 coaxials that will drop right in and a nice amp. Or if your truck uses the 5.25 inch separated Id opt for a nice set of 5.25 inch comps. on a nice amp.

Do a search for some ideas on equipment, you should find a lot of info.

I am in the same boat. I have an 05 SCREW with the 6-disc. I also want to keep my head unit. I have installed Polk DB 570 in the doors, and there is a noticeable improvement (although just a slight improvement). I really don't want to go the route of subwoofer (but it's not a definate no, just would take longer due to $$$).

Here are the specs for the db570s:

Sensitivity 93 db
Freq. response 52-22k Hz
RMS Power 6-60 watts
Peak Power 180 watts
Impedence 4 ohms

So, going on these specs, would I want a 60watt X 4 amp? If so, what amp/brand would you guys recomend if you were trying to save some $$$? I'm not an audiophile at all, I would just like a little more punch out of these polks.

Also, I'm a total idjet when it comes to amps and stuff. So if you could spell it out for me like I'm a 5 yr old on what exactly I would need, as well as how to link into my existing wires/system.

Thanks,

Guy with quiet stereo :o

I LOVE my boston acoustics NX87's. I'd run like a 400-500/4 to them

I dont know what your budget is, but a good place to look is online car stero.com. Plus you are going to have to buy rca adapters or (loc). I dont think the stock head unit has preouts. last thing if your looking for an amp, find one that will put out a least 60w x4 @ 4ohms.
