Newbie help

Hey guys...plan on upgrading my system from stock. I dont know a whole lot about amps. I've decided im only going to get a single 10inch kicker sub with a box to put under the seat. What brand of amp should i get? What channel? sorry for the newbie questions...how much do they cost? thanks

First..You need to know the RMS of the kicker sub you are going to run. This will tell you what amp you will need.If you are going to run 1 single voice coil sub then a mono or 1 channel amp will do fine.If its a dual voice coil then a 2 chanel would work just fine.If you have the specs for the sub that would help alot.RMS,Number or voice coils and how many ohms are they.

Alright let me start over....i really dont know what to get. I want a single 10 inch sub to make my truck get some pumping. I assume you have to have an amp also right? I was looking at this website for ideas http://musicmooseaudio.com/subwoofers.html

Well.......what Kicker sub are you looking at exactley-the Comp VR, L5, L7, or .

If your just going to be running a sub off the amp-Id suggest a mono amp-or if money is tight-a two channel amp bridged will work fine.

Bronkx pretty much said what we need to know-but even if its a dual voice coil, you can use a mono amp.

So-to sum it up-what model of sub are you looking at-and what is your budget for an amp? Also-are you looking to get a brand new amp-or maybe something used(you can get some awsome deals on good used amps-trust me)

Devin4x4, Since you admit not knowing a lot about this, it would be helpful to know your budget and just what it is you want a system to do for you. Do you intend to add subs to a stock system? Do you intend to upgrade the "main speakers" at some point? What kind of music do you prefer? Is your truck a Supercab, SuperCrew, or what?

Keep it simple, as long as its not an old low end kiker,, stick with a 400 or 500 watt amp,,, get a mono channel amp if your not running other components off of it. some brand to think about, alpine, rockford, memphis, or bazooka...all good quality see what you can pull off for a deal.

I always like using Soundsplinters rl-i 10" for small spaces in sealed enclosures to get some nice bass.
