amp?
Ive now got the panasonic cq-c8100u cd player(rms 25w max 50w) with the alpine sps-171a(rms 50w max 250w) component speakers. Everyone that has these speakers says for them to sound good that you need a powerful amp. Well i wanted to know if i should get a mono or 2-channel amp and around what wattage? And would the cd player need the amp too?
If anyone has these speakers then what amp do you have?
And is dynamat really needed?
does any of these amps look like a good one to use on my equipment?
rockford fosgate punch 201s
alpine mrp-t220
kenwood kac-6202
kenwood kac-7201
thanks,
ryan

You don't want a mono amp for the components. The Alpine would be a perfect fit. They make nice, solid gear. I would prefer it myself over the others mentioned. And the amp doesn't "do" anything to the CD player. If the CD player has the appropriate RCA connections, settimg the gain on the amp to match the output level of the CD player is the only concern between it and the amp. And, Dynamat is helpful, but it's not a necessity in a daily driver.
I've done things many ways myself. I've done a lot of business with Crutchfield over the years. You can't beat their customer service. They include lots of things in an order that other places charge extra for. I've also bought many things from ebay, including everything in my current system except the HU and some cables, etc. I've found that if you buy quality gear on ebay from a reputable dealer(not everyone is out to rip you off), then use that gear properly, as I mentioned before, the warranty rarely comes in to play. There is an upside to ebay in that you can find some very good prices, comparatively speaking. The downsides can be, trouble dealing with a vendor IF there is a problem, high shipping costs, no warranty, and there are some who ARE out to rip people off. The upside to Crutchfield far outweigh any downside. And there are other good internet dealers. Many of those are not authorized dealers for what they sell and offer their own version of a warranty, so beware. It all boils down to what you feel comfortable with. I checked Crutchfield and that Alpine amp is only $129.95, so I don't think I would take too many risks buying it somewhere else just to save $30. I checked ebay and that amp is all over the place for $99. But shipping is $22.95. Crutchfield's shipping is like $5.95. So, you do the math and figure if it's worth the risk.
thanks again 97f250 for all the help.
i think i might buy from a dealer around town so i can get it fast and no shipping
i really appreciate everything
