is my amp underpowered?

After more playing I tweaked the amp gain down to 50% which should match my 2V HU output.

The sub and box sound nice and tight but really low volume. I can crank my hu up to almost 95% and the sub really doesn't even sound like it is more the 25% volume but the sound is clean... I even then can enable the bass boost which I hate and it starts to clip slightly. Normally that should sound like crap

Is my amp underpowered? the subs are 250or 300w rms expected and my RF power 150 only puts out 150W RMS.
I am iun a small 10" box at only .45-.5 CU ft a\with the sub installed.

good value amps

I was looking at a mid range budget system

I already have MP7500 HU
XM radio
Powerbass dual 10" 4ohm sub
I was thininking of getting a new amp mine might be too small to drive the sealed sub/box(RF POWER 150)

how are
soundstorm
power acoustik
lanzar

I have had a cheap legacy driving a pioneer 8" isobaric box and I thought that was fine. My current 10" and RF don'r comapre in sound to the iso setup so I know something is wrong

That box seems small. Smaller boxes make less efficient use of the power.

Lanzar=cr@p

PA makes some decent amps.
not sure about soundstorm.

I sort of like the powerbass and it looks good. I think I will try the soundstorm amp, it is a good price and specs are very good can't hurt. I will try it on a set of power bass components.

I didi test the box some more. I realized I have a support baffle in the box that only has 1" slot. So the box internally is almost completely cut in half the sub is only in 0.25 cu ft...

That is bad. I am making a new box that should come close to 1 cuft

I am very happy with my Soundstream 5 channel amp. I believe the sub channel is only 100 W rms at 4 ohmsl, but it sounds great and it's nice not having to mess with two or more amps. I have bridged it to three channels, which sends 100W RMS to the front 6x8s. The amp also has a 24 db sub crossover at 80 hz, which is better than most i've seen.

I am trying to figure out a design for a single 10" box somewhat like yours...not easy! The driver needs at least 5" mounting depth, and in order to make room for the cutout, it's going to stick out from under the seat further than I wanted.

hmmmmm.....

I am looking at 2 2ch amps... I would get 1 amp now for the front and depending on how it goes I could upgrade the backs as needed to either compon,2/3 ways or midbass.

I have seen SPL and Power Acoustik amps for like $30 for 2x35w rms.

That is all I need. I think power acoustik is a solid budget amp? I also notice that mansy sites are labeling SPL amps as pwoer acoutiks? are they the same?

Either way. I have new drawings for my new box. It is now 3/4" and it will protrude past the edge of the rear seat by about 1-2". My current box is flush and it almost looks too far back. So I think an inch or two will not even be noticed by the passengers legs.

Right now my box hits hard but because of a stupid internal brace acting like a baffle it is more like a bandpass at very low freq and there is almost zero midrange.

It does sound extremly clean but my new box should have much more response.

It has about 5.75" inside mounting depth, and I 1.1cu ft of space without the sub. With my sub it will probably have about 0.9cu ft all under the 60% portion of the seat

regarding amps, to some extent of course you get what you pay for. A long time ago, young and stupid, bought the biggest amp Jensen had to offer. It sounded better than stock but nothing great. Took it apart, and it was mostly air inside! I bet the circuit board only covered 1/3 of the length of it! Nobuddy home! But it looked cool because the chassis was pretty big.

I've seen the same thing with cheap bench grinders...take it apart and it has the equivalent of tiny RC truck motor in there, inside a huge cast iron case.

First of all, your amp isn't underpowered. That's like saying my 5.4L engine is underpowered. The truck is underpowered by the 5.4L engine, therefore, you're speakers may be underpowered by your amp. Anyway, I din't think your box is too small as others have suggested. One 300W speaker doens't need 1 CU ft. I run two 12" Kenwoods, 750W each in a sealed 1.25 CU ft box. Sounds awesome. Check the manufacturer and see what they suggest, as far as size and porting.

I think you're on the right track.

I think your problem is with your gain controls and 2V HU. Turn your gain up or get at least a 4V output.

When I went from a 2V Sony HU to a 4.5V Kenwood HU (same components everywhere else), it sounded a LOT louder. Especially the bass.

i replaced my HU with a new 6700 and that made a huge differance in sound auality and some volume.

It told me a few things,

the HU was bad and I adjusted the crossovers wrong
The amp does work
The box is still too small to get a loud volume I will try porting and increasing the size for fun
