Remote wire?

My Phoenix Gold R8.0:4 amp will be arriving tomorrow to drive my 4 Kappa 5x7s and I am planning to install it immediately. I believe that I have all of my bases covered with the wiring except for the question of the remote wire to the amp. I don't believe that there is a power antenna wire on the factory HU so what should be used to prevent the amp from being powered on all the time? thanks.

Find a switched fuse in the fuse box and use it for the remote or you can run a second wire from the battery with a toggle switch on it and use that to turn the amp on/off

Is there any way to have it turn on with the HU?

If you are adding an aftermarket amp, you are most likely gonna have to access the deck anyway right? The easiest (in my opion) is to tap into the accessory wire going to the deck. if you want a switch, hook it to constant or accessory, but you are asking for a dead battery if you hook it to constant and forget to turn it off after a long time.

So, if I tap into the accessory wire then the amp will be powered when the ignition is on, but not controlled by the HU power. Is this correct?

RIGHT! -to the above statement/question.

I don't know of the 04+ HU's having a 12V rem output, isn't it multiplexed?????

All done! sounds good. I just have to get rid of some engine noise now. I ran both the 4ga power wire and the RCAs down the passenger side. Will it help to run the RCAs down the drivers side away from the power instead? I have plenty of wire length even with the amp behind the rear seat. I still haven't dialed in the input sensitivity yet either and I believe that should help. Any other suggestions? thanks

If you want the amp to turn on and off with the radio get a direct electronics remote power adaptor part # 55000 and that cool little thing will give you "remote " on and off with the radio and not the key ....may also get rid of turn on or off thump. PAC Audio also makes a trunk loc that is lineout covertor and this remote turn on in one unit. As for the whine try using a rca ground loop isolator part # FL GL 600 from tsunami ( metra may be same #)

Chris, it'll make a huge difference if you run the wires on opposite sides of the truck, VERY GOOD chance thats a big contributor to your noise. Or even try to push the RCA's back towards the middle of the truck, you may not have to pull em all the way out.

All done! It definately made a huge difference. The high pitch whine that changed with the engine RPMs is completely gone. The only noise left is the soft hiss that I believe is normal as long as the amp is on.

Thanks for all your help!
