Unhappy Amp bypass

I have a 1998 F150 with a stock 6Cd changer in the back. I am trying to change to a 2001 single disc changer because my unit reads "no cd" and volume control is broken. After connections, no sound comes out. The new unit has built in Amp. The old unit has a separate amp. how do I by-pass? Any help out there? thanks.

I'm not sure but if it is similar to my 97 Expedition then the amp is squeezed in beneath the HU but above the heater vents. I was never able to remove mine ... didn't want to take the entire dash apart.

You should be able to unplug the "output" harness of the OEM amp, and plug it right into the radio...this used to work quite often. Ford made it pretty easy to option out the vehicle on the assembly line...

as cpfd910 says ... run new speaker wire, preferably a quality wire with a gauge appropriate to what you'll be feeding it
