need opinions

I have an '01 Lightning and have a few questions about improving the sound. Will an amp overload the stock speakers? If not how much amp can they take safely? Has anyone ever modified the storage container behind the seats to hold an amp and maybe cut the top to accept small speakers?
The stock system in this truck is a joke. Any ideas are appreciated.

In my opinion, amplifying stock speakers will only amplify the weaknesses they have. The stock speakers are not made with true sound quality in mind.

i put an eclipse 8443 head unit in, and people don't believe me when i tell them i am still using the stock speakers. you would be better off just getting a good head unit and a small sub with an amp for it.

yes i agree when listening to a cd on the factory system, it sounds like you are listening to am radio underwater. and when you turn it up, the music doesn;t get louder, only the distortion does.
