I think your wasting your time with the stock head unit.
But after the Bassani cat back, long tube headers and the Apten port job on the blower..........I never turn my stereo on

Gator brings up an interesting point. We are all different in how important audio is to us, which translates into how badly we may want to make upgrades in our systems. Some of us would rather do performance upgrades, etc. Depending on which Infinitys you have, an amp will work wonders. I would recommend a HU upgrade as well. The trouble you go to and the payoffs from integrating the stock HU just aren't worth it. Also, the stock HU has a feature that diminishes the bass output at high volumes. It's a built in protection for the crummy stock speakers. At least the HU in my '97 had that feature. Not sure about the later ones. In any case, the stock HU is not made for superb sound quality. It is very average and the emphasis is more on long term reliability.

I think my stock 99 cd player had the thing 97f250 is talking about. I had the stock HU with a sub and once the volume got over half way the bas REALLY went down. Could barely tell the sub was there.

Like these guys are saying, try and get a new HU. It will make a world of difference. If you did get a new HU you migh even decide you dont need an amp.

If you put an amp on the factory HU you would probably be looking for more output after a month or two.
