Well, I got it all hooked up. Sounds pretty damn good too. The mids, treble and bass all balance out. Just the way I wanted it. You were right cgorris. THANKS

- D Zerv It, it worked out just fine.

I am glad that you are enjoying it

It just surprises me to think that there are som many people out there pushing 1000+ watt amps for your subs. Back in the early days we used to build tremendous systems with under 1000 watts. Of course back in that time frame 145-150db was world record levels. But for the average listener that isn't going to be listening (I hope not anyway) above 100-110db a little small watt system works out just perfectly. Oh well, times change things and things change with time.

Glad I could help you out.

Sometimes I wish I knew it all.

A person has to start somewhere, huh?

That's what guys like me are around for. To help out when we can. If you get a chance be sure to check out that site I gave you. It will bring you right up to speed with enough knowledge to actually help out others as well as yourself.

As for starting somewhere. I remember the days that I was new to the whole audio scene and didn't know the difference between my butt and a speaker. But at least you can always learn. I have found that even after almost 20 years of audio experience that I still learn new things once in a while.

CGorris, I'm curious. Now that you know the difference, which makes more noise. Your butt or a speaker? j/k

On a side note, I'm also looking at an older Kenwood. A KAC-8401. Looks like it may be the best thing going for my planned setup, for the price.

Well, I'm had my older Clarion head unit installed today, with the 6 disc changer under the passenger seat. My hope is to put the Kenwood amp under the drivers seat and the wiring will be as follows. Deck -> DSP/EQ -> out to Kenwood AMP -> Infinity speakers in the doors which I'll be picking up in the next week or two. Still trying to decide which ones I'm going to get, but price is definitely going to be a factor.

My plan changes daily, but that's the latest revision. My biggest problem has been finding a reasonably priced amp with decent output that'll fit under the drivers seat (preferably).

That depends on if I ate chilli and chased it with a 12 pack.

If that is the case I don't think they make a speaker loud enough.

As for getting an amp with good power output and small size look into class D amps. They generate little or no heat and are very compact with tons of power.

The problem with the class D's ,s $$$. Of which I have little.

Was able to get the head unit and the changer installed today. Man, I didn't realize just how bad the factory speakers were until I put a real deck behind them. Zero bass output. I can't turn the bass up on my Clarion head unit at all without it sounding like crap. Even my '01 speakers were better. Driving home from the stereo shop with my old deck back in the truck removed any notions of saying "To hell with it" and living with the factory speakers. No freakin' way.

I know what you mean when you say "no BASS".
Mine sounded like crap too.

I added the AMP and the sub, and

Mine sounds great now. Just the way I wantd it to sound. I dont want the "BOOM, BOOM" sound so I dont have the AMP turned up too much (about half way). The mids and BASS are great now.

Install cost:

AMP = $50
SUB = freebie
All wiring = $12 (Wal-Mart)

Total install cost

$62.00

lucky me, huh?

You should be officially promoted to "bastard" status.

I've got everything priced out and lined up for purchase, I just don't have the funds. It does look like I'm going to go with the Kenwood amp when it's all said and done, but with the cost of the amp + installation etc., I've still got about $500 worth of spending to do.

You gonna install it yourself, right?

After I installed mine...I realized how easy it was to install.

If I can do it....anyone can do it.

If we were just the door speakers I would say yes, but I'm going to have my EQ/DSP mounted in the truck, plus the amp, plus new wire to the door speakers etc. I could do it myself but not the quality job that the local shop is going to do it. We've got a place here in town that has won several national awards for their work. It's reasonably priced, quick, and done right. They solder/heatshrink all the connections, etc. It's worth it to me to have them do it, and do it right.
