Has anyone ever mounted amps up underneath the dash? I have an '04 and it seems like if I drop the glove box, that there is plenty of space above and behind. Can anyone see any issues with this?

I've got an amp tucked up in the dash on mine. My truck has the flow through so I went in through the opening where the deck is. Got it mounted to some steel at the top and plastic ducts on the bottom. I've never felt it after running it but it was only pushing 5x7's so it shouldn't have had any excuses for getting hot. It also had a fan on the amp so that may have been a good thing. Going in the way I did left me with only being able to get a 50x2 up in there but my 100x2 would have fit, just extremly tight! It was a pain to get screwed down with limited room to move around in there with screwdrivers and drill bits.

If your thinking of running an older amp with lots of load, the heating thing could become an issue.

Doesn't your truck have a bunch of fan duct up in there? I haven't looked up in there on mine but assumed there was too much junk up there to mess with. Would think behind the back seat would be easier to get mounted up. I didn't discover the space back there till too late.

 

I thought I saw enough room for an amp to sit nice and flat. You can get behind the glove box by just flexing the one side of the glovebox (with the catch) inward and it will drop. I'm going to look at it in more detail tonight.

I got behind the rear seat of the supercab....a little bit to work with. But i'd rather put the sub amp back there.

Oh trust me, been in behind the glove box when doing the wiring and kick panels. I just didn't notice any room up in there. If you got room, i'd say go for it.

You have enough room to put quite a few amps behind the back seat on the pass side. There is also lots of room under the front seats if they are not power. Lots of room for lots of options.

 

This may be a dumb question but how do you secure the amps behind the seat without drilling holes in the cab? Or do you?

I screwed a board onto the raised internal reinforcements along the top and to the raised brackets on the bottom:

That way when you screw your amp into the board you're electrically isolated and reduce the likelyhood of a ground loop.

 

did you remount the rear seat section over the amps?

 

I have a 04 scab ... are there directions on rear seat removal and HU removal somewhere? What about wiring diagram for stereo? I have the 6 disc indash system (non-audiophile) model.
