Amp question

I just bought a Clarion HU thats 52w x 4, and 2 pair of Boston Acoustics FX8s. I want to add a 10" sub. My question is, can I get a 4 channel amp to power my FX8s as well as the sub? Or will I need to get a dedicated amp for the sub. Thanks for any responses.

i have heard very good reviews about these amps and i looked at various places and located it at millionbuy.com for 99.95(on sale)

im guessing you can run one set of channels regular for your two boston acoustics and bridge the other 2 channels to optimize power for your 10" sub

take a look

R735:

:Max power, 2 ohm:
250w x 4
:RMS power, 4 ohm:
100w x 4
:Bridged power:
500w x 2
:Signal-noise-ratio:
>105dB
:THD:
0.01%
: Dimensions:
11 3/4" W x 2 3/16"H x 11"

the link to the actual website is

The dealer told me as long as all 4 speakers are of same make and size, it would be ok for a 4 channel amp to power the 4 speakers and a sub. I'm not sure if that is the best way. The amp I'm looking at is a "Massive", not sure of the wattage. The sub is a 10" Boston Acoustics. Thanks for your replies.

i also like having a amp for the speakers and an amp for the subs. When i first started I did the 5 channel amp 5 for the speakers and one for the subs but if you want serious power you gotta go with a seperate mono amp.

I am using the JL Audio 500/5 for my system amp. It has 100x2 for the fronts and a 250x1 for the sub. It also has 2x25 for the rears. 25 watts is more than adequate for rear fill. It has a built in x-over. It also has an ambience feature for the rear channels that removes the common signal from both the left and right channels. This prevents the rears from pulling back the sound stage.

You can find ebay deals for the 500/5 for under $500.

Can I run a 4 channel amp for the speakers and a mono amp for the sub? I'm only gonna have one 10" sub.

Well, because of space issues in my SCREW, I went with the Memphis Baby Bell 5 channel amp and a single 10" sub in a ProBox.

The sub portion of the Amp is a class D amp, and is 400 RMS @ 1 ohm, 200 RMS @ 2 ohms or 100RMS at 4 ohms. (The 4 channel portion is a class A/B and is 55 rms X 4 at 4 ohms if I remember correctly and 75 X 4 at 2 ohms)

It is nice and slim, is clean and hits HARD and is reasonably priced....might want to look at one of those.

Wait a minute, on 5 channel amps does one channel have more power then the other four?

If they are like that I would go with a 5 channel then.

A 5 channel amp is 4 channels for the doors speakers and the 5th is for the sub. Yes the 5th has more power than the other 4.

The JL Audio 500/5 is a 5-channel amp. It has 2x100 for the fronts, 2x25 for the rear fill, and 250x1 for the sub.

Ok, heres what I did. I bought an Eclpise 50w x 4 channel amp for the speakers and an Eclipse 50w x 2 channel amp for the sub. I had them installed yesterday, got my truck back last night, drove around for about an hour and a half JAMMIN . I still have a little tweaking to do but so far, it sounds great! The single 10" sub is plenty for my truck. I listened to everthing from KORN to Spyro Gyra. I feel the system performed very well. Thanx for everyones input.
