Need help on which amp
Need help on which amp
I'm really not stereo literate, so bare with me...
I'm trying to put together a nice stereo package for my F-150 Lightning. Here's my list so far:
- Alpine CDA-9813 Head Unit
- Polk EX3550 5.25" front component speakers (10-85W RMS, 250W peak)
- Q-Form Kickpanels (assuming the Polks will fit??)
- MTX Thunderform box with (2) MTX thunder 6000 10" subs (50-250 RMS, 500W peak?)
- Alpine CHA-5634 6-disc CD changer
My questions are: 1) does this sound like a decent combo, 2)what size amplifier(s) would be optimal to drive this system? and 3) Do I have enough room to mount the cd changer and amps?
thanks in advance,
Jim

This setup is decent...When shopping for amps you need to make sure they will fit underneath your seats or you are SOL. You are going to have to remove the factory jack to fit one amp & the CD changer (if it will fit). If you plan on having two amps (which is highly recommended) you will not have room for the CD changer.
Thanks for the response.
I'll take a look under the seat to see how much space i'm dealing with.
Do you have any recommendations on amp(s) and how much power they should put to the speakers mentioned above? Should they match the peak watts or just the RMS? I really don't know much about this stuff.
Thanks!

I would get an amp that gives them 200-300 watts each. The Planet Audio P850D is a quality amp that will put 600 watts at 2 ohms or 850 watts at 1 ohm & it can be found online at a pretty good price. I had one in my truck and was very impressed with it, plus it fit under my seat (bench seat).
Are the subs SVC or DVC, how many ohms are the voice coils?

I know the lightning owners have some extreme sound systems. I think you should go all out. Have you considered a 20,000 watta amp.http://nexxon.com/dbdrag.htm I guarantee this will devastate all.

Okay, say I get an amp such as the Monoblock 500 amp for the subs. Since it's rated at 500W at 1.5 to 4 ohms, would that be enough power to just hook it up directly at 4 ohms without rewiring? Is there more stress on the amp to rewire the subs to 1 ohm?
Again thanks for your help
Again thanks for your help
With JL Audio amps you will get the same power whether you have a 1.5 ohm load or a 4 ohm load. The amp is not stable at 1 ohms. You wouldn't gain anything by re-wiring the subs, so you should leave it like it is.
