With any electronic/electrical equipment, all bets are off as to if it will be able to protect itself from catastrophic failures.. short circuits, component failures, power problems, etc.

If the Variable Frequency Drives I work on actually protected themselves from failures like they are designed to.. I'd be out of a job.
