You Guys Know Gas Prices Now Days Are Sky High, Well I Think My Truck Might Be a "GAS GUZZLER" Its Been Wasting More Gas, Is There Anything I Can Replace or Something That Might Have a Failure, Anything That I Can Use To Improve My MPG Cause With Gas Prices I Don't Wanna Be Doubling or Tripling What I Pay Now, Who Has Had This Problem & I Have The Smaller V-8, The 4.6L So My Trucks Acting Like It Gots The Good Old Mighty 5.4L

 

Remember..we are all running winter grade fuel now...that will usually cost you 2 or 3 mpg's at least. other than that just be sure that the maintenance is being done.

 

I was getting roughly 17mpg stock w/ my 5.4. I then put a leveling kit and 35" tires which brought me down to roughtl 9-10mpg. After I bought my Edge Evo Programmer I was able to get back to 14-16mpg. If you're stock I don't see why a programmer couldn't get you a wee bit more. Also I try to keep all shifts under 2k RPMS and just very very light w/ the pedal.

 

I recorded 15.8mpg with my stock 5.4L - that is with winter grade fuel, long warm up time (10 degrees outside), mixed driving, 3.73's, and driving in 4wd some of the time. . . . . Check your cam phasers. The mechanic who replaced mine said they can hinder fuel economy.

 

why did you go the effort of capitalizing every first letter?

 

x3 on the winter fuel mix. I notice lower mpg numbers with winter fuel every year. I feel the 5.4 3V does better overall than the 4.6 ( I may be wrong) Your 4.6 is doing the same work as the larger slightly more powerful 5.4 3V.

That alone can hinder your mph versus the 5.4.

 

Sorry, I was using my phone and it has auto CAPS, also I'm gonna buy a edge evolution programmer but is it easy to install and how much did it cost you cause I'm willing to do anything to increase my mpg but not to waste a lot of gas like now

 

Sorry, but if buy a gryphon or diablo before i went to an edge. The custom tuning is what will give you the best performance/economy. I usually lose about 1-1.5 mpg on winter-blend fuel. How are you calculating your fuel mileage? If you are using the dash readout, you have poor data. The programmers run around $400, so it will take YEARS to get back your investment in the programmer. That's a lot of fuel to buy.

i just posted about this not too long ago as well. i mostly attribute my recent loss in mpg to winter blend fuel as well as the cold temps. i also have the 4.6l on my 2010 scab. i am already running a bigger tire. the 275/70/10 duratracs. we can get into the whole heavier tire/ softer compound etc etc which alos leads to decreased mpg's.

i as well am looking into a programmer soon even though i plan on keeping everything stock except for the gotts mod i have now as well as modified exhaust. just wanting to wake the engine up a bit and get back just a bit more hp and mpgs. still need to look into that as when i had previously noone had not even canned tunes for my type of engine cause it is a 2v and not a 3v which is apparently rarer than the 3v for this year. i believe diablosport could help me out now. but think i am going to contact PHP and see what they can do for me as well with the edge evo.

 

i bought a used superchips programmer from a buddy at work for $100, i was impressed with the economy tune using 87 octane, i gained a few horses and MPG's...

definetly a good invesment

 

Agreed! I've been using the Superchips 1815 since 2005. Used it on my '04 and now on my replacement '05.

I already posted above that I've seen real nice MPG's on both my trucks. I feel this tuner is a huge contributor to improved MPGs and the only mod that I used on both trucks. When I bought my '05, I drove it for a month before I installed the tuner. Instantly picked up a solid 1-2 around town and 3-4 more on the highway if driven carefully (keeping speeds down) with MPGs in mind.
The 87 octane tune adds a real nice kick in the pants over stock and offers the best fuel economy of the various tunes stored in the tuner. I've put many miles on all those tunes over the Years.
The (fuel saving) MileageXS tune does well raising MPGs but there is a "noticeable" loss in power associated with that tune. Stay away from that one.

Just a little Superchips MPG review for you entertainment. LOL

 

Buy a Ford car and keep your Ford truck then. No matter what, these six thousand pound trucks will not be fuel economy friendly. Only when parked. I have a Neon for a daily driver, 28mpg every tank. Saves me good money and my truck is there when I need/want it.
