Question Second Favorite Spark Plug

Hi Guys,
I am about to change my spark plugs, and I am not sure that I am ready to part with $80.00 for the Denso Iridium's. So I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the NGK Iridium IX or the Autolite Iridium Finewire. Or should I go Double Platinum. Just looking for some past experience advise from you guys. Thanks.
Gregg

I did try those Iridium NGK's and liked them. I too could not get past the price of Densos. I think I would if I had a blower, but that about it.

I have NGK iridiums in my blown 5.4. They are gapped at 38 and have been great. Took em out to check after 5K and they were perfect. Very smooth idle. Truck runs like a r@ped @pe. Well, maybe that is the blower and the Troyer tuned Xcal2.

Well, that's 3 positives for the NGK's. That's what I was leaning towards anyway. Thanks for the input!

I just put NGK Iridium IX plugs in myu 98' 4.6l yesterday. I gapped them to .054 like the spec sheet in my Haynes manual said. The more I look around here though, people are gapping in the .035 range though it seems to be tied to blown motors.

Did I gap these right? I don't have a blower. The only mods I have are a self modified airbox with a K&N drop-in and a custom tune from Troyer on the way.

Also, will I really see any performance improvement from high performance coil packs?

JMC - I think you're right. I did fine with the .054 on mine until my supercharger..... went to .035......some have gone to.028. The blowers blow out the spark if the gap is too wide.

I don't care for the NGK's, they play a bit too fast & loose with heat ranges for my tastes.

If I want a powerful plug that I don't mind changing often, then I'll use the Autolite AR-series copper-based plug.

But if I want a plug I can leave in for an extended period, or for any 2 or 4-valve supercharged Ford modular motor, then it's always going to be the Denso Iridium - they are very well worth every penny and then some.

Thanks for the input Mike. I must admit though, I am not about to change out these plugs again any time soon. That was not an easy job (for me anyway)

Do you think I will get anything out of replacing the original (85K mile) coil packs with Accel's?
