Keyless/Remote Start/Alarm General Question

I searched a little bit on here and some other sites, and couldn't find what I was looking for right off the bat, so I thought I'd post. If the answer has already been posted, my bad.

I'm looking at getting a keyless/remote start system on my '05 STX. Cash isn't abundant right now, and I plan on installing it myself. Been looking at the Code-Alarm/Powercode stuff. Here's the question:

If I get just a Keyless/Remote Start system, the doors are locked, and someone breaks in and opens the door, will the normal truck horn honk to alert me, or will nothing happen because the system doesn't have security built-in? I certainly don't need 6 different tones, etc. My previous truck (Ranger) had the OEM system and it would just honk the horn if I opened the door with the system activated. Any info you guys can offer would be great!

Thanks in advance!

I have a code-alarm that I had installed and the factory alarm works just the same as it did with the factory key fob. As long as you install it right, it should work just fine. I recommend having someone install it for you though. I know on my 02 they had to buy and extra $30 part because of the way our keys send a code to the comp to start the truck or somethin like that. Plus then you have warranty on the install, mine is warrantied for life. I got out the dooor for like $240 for the 2-way system installed.

A Ford / CodeAlarm system does not disable the function of the factory system.
Even the facotry RKE fobs still work with it, so you would have then 4 lock / unlock fobs, and 2 with the remote start on it.

I am assuming you are refering to the Silver level / Code Alarm CA530 version.

The install of the Ford system is not bad, and if you get it from Travis, for an extra 25.00 he sets up the CodeAlarm for the Ford, and you get the handy Vehicle specific diagram, which is even quicker yet.

The PATS bypass is like another 55.00 I do believe. All in all, it is not bad at all to install, there are several threads on the forums here about the topic.

Good luck.

I guess I confused you guys with my question. I have a 2005 STX... no OEM security system in it at all... No Fobs.

Since my STX has no security system at all, no remote start, no keyless entry, I wanted to add that. I'd like to save money by getting just a keyless/remote start system. I'm curious if I do get that system, and someone opens the car door with it "locked", will the horn go off to alert me, or will it do nothing since the system isn't a security system as well?

I don't want to pay extra for some 6-tune 125dB security speaker if the keyless/remote start will just use the factory horn. If I'm not making sense, let me know.

Sorry, yes I was confused.

The PATS system does not offer the horn option like the perimeter alarm in the 97& 98's

I have the Ford Silver Remote start in my '06, and it does not do what you are looking for.

If that is the function you are looking for, you need to add a Ford Gold level remote start / alarm or the Code Alarm CA630 kit.

I think the Gold / CA630 can use the horn for the audiable alarm indication, an additional speaker is an option on those.

Drop Travis an email on the CA630, I think he does those pre-wire as well.

One thing, does the STX have PDL ? I don't know what it comes with stock, or what can be ordered as an option on the STX. I know the RKE needs the truck to have the PDL already installed in it.

BTW : Got the HD grille sitting in the dining room ( might as well, there is no table in there ) waiting on getting the surround painted Dark Stone from the stock black, prior to installing it.

I didn't pay attention the last time in the Dark Stone mods thread to your S/N. Do you have a ZX-7R ? There was another member here some time ago ( beanhead ) that had a yellow one. Nice corner carvers, they turn into corners a lot faster then my 9R does. I shimmed the rear 5mm reset sag, and it still canot keep up with hard turns like the flying superman I am running the suggested spec from the suspension tuning guide from sportrider.com. The bikes are just not the same :o

Thanks Sscully... exactly the info I was lookin for! Who is travis by the way??

Well, I used to have a '93 ZX7 (not an R). It was vandalized and totalled about 10 months ago, and I haven't figured out how to change my account name on here yet, so that's why it still says ZX7. I miss the bike, but it was old and needed work, and I got a lot more than I think I could have sold it for from the insurance company so that was a big plus. Maybe someday I'll get myself another bike... just not enough $$ to go around.

Did you have a chrome surround before? I need to get some new photos up, I haven't taken any since I put the HD grille on mine...

[Edit]: Oh, and no, I don't have power locks but am adding those next, and then would be keyless/remote start system afterward. I saw a post the other day that sounds like the STX is finally going to be offered with the power options, but 2004 and 2005 did not.

Hey...someone said my name?

The CA-630 is pretty much the same as the FORD GOLD system. The only difference is that the gold has input wires for your factory keyless entry so that if you have the keypad on the door it allows you to arm/disarm the system with the door pad. Since you're vehicle does not have this then it is not an issue. Also the FORD GOLD will send pulses to your memory seats if your vehicle is equipped with them for his and hers remotes. Other than that the two systems are the same.

The CA-630 uses either the horn or a supplied siren. I always use the horn output. It's a random horn honk that gets your attention. The siren is the same as everyones elses. The system gives you both a warn-away feature and also a full trigger. Also the 630 has a super bright blue LED for your dash that puts the FORD red one to shame. The system also gives you a car-finder feature that honks your horn 5 times and also if you have rear defrost it allows you to turn it on as well.

A step up from the 630 is the CA-670 it is the Code Alarm Elite Series with a 2-Way Command Confirming remote control. This Unit allows you to do many functions such as view your temperature of the vehicle, timed starting, temperature starting. It will beep you back to confirm that it has armed/disarmed, been triggered, started, shutdown. Even has an alarm clock and vibrate mode.

The elite series system also feature the telematics port in which you can add the Car-Link. Via satellite you can arm/disarm, remote start, activate theft mode all from your telephone anywhere in the world.

Due out at the end of March hopefully is also the Intercept. Displayed at the 2006 CES show for Code Alarm. A GPS tracking system that uses the telematics port as well allowing you to view your vehicle via internet and satellite imaging. Great way to check up on the kid borrowing the vehicle for the night or whoever else you have to keep tabs on.

As for the power locks... that's no problem for your truck. Actuators are easy to install. Also available for your ride are replacement power regulators for your windows so you can have full powered doors (locks & windows)

FYI,there are two types of remote start system for Powercode. One is a a Remote Start System with Keyless Entry (Base Part #19G364) and the other is Vehicle Security System with Remote Start, Keyless Entry and Vehicle Security System (Base Part #19a361). I got the Vehicle Security Sytem, and one more thing dont forget you cellphone on your vehicle if you are equipt with this system. It will activate the panic mode because of the signal transmission on Cellphone. I really loved this system. Just add extra expenses for installation on factory/dealer. They will give a good work and most of all the warranty of work. Atleast you have somebody to blame if the system is not work.

remote start

About your remote start, I got one from JC Whitney it is remote start, locks, and alarm for only $119.00. I was not sure I would like it with all the other choices out there but it does every thing I could need and then some. I installed it my self and it was not to hard at all.
