Waterproof, LA (71375)

Before anyone asks, yes- it rains there.
The town got it's name long ago- the Mississippi river, which is only a levee away from us, changed courses and flooded out many of the towns in the area. A riverboat captain saw a resident standing there as he went by and he shouted: "Well, it seems like you guys are "Waterproof" over there!.

The name stuck. I'm 47 miles south of I-20, straight down Highway 65 from Tallulah, LA- Exit 171 south- if memory serves.
---------------------------------------------------------

Waterproof is one of 3 townships in Tensas Parish (County). Population around 1,500 today; it was 1,800 when I was there: (1969 - 1987); it an agricultural hub, no real business or industry; just gas stations, churches, great people, corn fields, bean fields and cotton fields. Pecan groves, dirt & rock roads, trees, deer & grass. Actually, I just described Tensas Parish. There are a few stores, but no chains. You won't find a Wal-Mart, K-Mart, Kroger, Albertson's, KFC, Mickey D, Popeyes, Pizza Hut, Burger King or anything in either of the three towns, and nowhere in the Parish. But, it's still home.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I did 9 years in the Army, and I visited/lived in:

Fort Jackson, SC
Fort Gordon, GA
Wurzburg, Germany
Fort Huachuca, AZ
Dhahran, Saudi Arabia
Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Fort Gordon, GA (Again- More Drill SGT's, Yay!)
Fort Hood, TX
Tong Du Chong, South Korea
Uijongbu, Korea
Oakland, CA

And now, home is: Plano, TX (75287- which is City of Dallas, Plano ISD) I pay taxes for Collin County and Plano Schools, so I claim Plano).

I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could!
I can't see leaving Plano- I have never set foot in a nicer, cleaner, prettier city.

MadMarty, i go to CMSU, and i love being close to Whiteman. Pretty neat to see those B-2's fly over campus! There was one today that flew over that was extremely low, im guessing 1/4 mile off the ground. I took a tour there a long time ago, but dont really remember it, id like to take another sometime.

Hey Green,

We had some flyovers for Veteran's day ceremonies, that's probablly what you saw. The B-2 is pretty amazing, but it just doesn't look like it should be able to fly.

yea theyre kinda awkward looking. Must be pretty intimidating for those terrorists to be huddled up in some sand bunker with a machine gun, and see one of those babies fly over....

Oh, can you hook me up with a ride in one.... ??

I'll hook you up with a ride right after I get one. Unfortunately there are only two seats and they must be filled with pilots, so no rides. I don't think the terrorists really get scared by the plane, they don't see them. Just all of the sudden stuff starts blowing up. That would be scary.

I was born someplace and we lived there for a while. Then my parents moved to this other place and since I was a baby I went with them. We lived there for a few years then we moved to someplace else. After a time, I went away to a different state to go to college, then went back home. After college I moved away, then lived somewhere else, and then moved back here where I have been for a long time. I am however thinking of moving to somewhere other than this place as it has become almost unbearable here. I'm not sure if life is better there, but it can't be any worse.

There was that one place where I spent a few summers back in some other time, but I didn't actually live there long enough for it to actually count.

Dang Kobi you had it worse than me. I thought I had it bad with the communists chasing my butt across Burma.

Of course, I still have Tibetan ninjas popping up around here every now and then trying to do me in and end the royal lineage.
