Yesterday I tried to remote start my truck and I got a red light on the remote. Ok figured it was just out of range when attempted. Got in and started truck with key. Engine light is now on and remote start honks instead of starting the truck. Has 73k miles on it and never had any issues with it until yesterday.
Husband hooked it up to my programmer. System said it was a common error. He cleared the error and it works fine.
I had the same exact problem with mine. After trying a bunch of different things I ended up googling the problem which of course, is what I should have done in the first place but I digress. From what I have read if you have the hood open, check engine light on, or a few other things that the remote start will not work. Which I guess is an ok thing for certain problems but the check engine light portion of it I completely disagree with. This will probably come off as being whiny or bitchy lol but I pay a decent amount of money for my truck. No matter if the CEL is on or not the remote start should work. I know the code for the CEL that is on is for a crankcase disconnect and I have tried every single thing to fix the problem minus going back completely to stock and nothing has seemed to work for longer than a few days. I love the newer trucks but when I had my 05' Sierra with much fewer sensors and electronic components it was so much easier to work on and add accessories to without the worry of tripping a CEL.
