Failing compressor coil?

A/C stopped working and was blowing the 10a (fuse 44) fuses anytime the coil tried pulling the clutch in. Disconnected harness from coil and fuse held. Being an electrician I thought what the hell, if it's a short I'll bump the current up and try and clear it. Threw a 30a at it and low and behold it held. Put 10a back in and it also held and A/C is working fine again.

So I'm thinking either I blew the short clear or the wire is worn through and I cleared it moving the harness and wires around.

Thoughts?

So you are an electrician and you decide to replace a blown 10amp fuse with a 30 amp!? I think I would have checked resistance to ground in the clutch and the wiring harness, and resistance of the coil in the clutch.

So your a senior member and have nothing to add other than assuming the steps I supposedly didn't take. Sorry I didn't go into great detail, thought I'd keep it short. Coil read 2.4 ohms, all else was clear and voltage to connector was 11.8.

It helps if you EXPLICITLY identify what you're working on....

or the wire is worn through and I cleared it moving the harness and wires around.
Probably....

Sorry about that. 2015 screw 3.5 eco 4x4.

Was a little premature thinking it was working. Clutch only held for the one cycle then was blowing fuse again. Anyway, got back in it and moved all the wires around like I was riding on a backroad and it never popped, this was with connector disconnected. Checked reading at the relay and noticed 3.8v on pin 3 which looking at the wiring diagram is hot at all times from PCM. Seems like an odd voltage though. I can't remember if I checked it when the PCM called for clutch active.

I'd have to see the schematic to comment further (my service library only goes up to the 2013 model year for the F150).
