Gentleman's Diesel

Seeing as how many of the features on this 2019 truck are new to me and I'm not seeing a lot of talk about them here in this form, I'll post a message on some of them giving my impression of them. Maybe some where some one is looking at purchasing a new truck, and if it help one person decide on one option, then I think its worth the time it took me to post it.

Starting with the diesel engine. Before I purchase this truck I learned some facts searching the internet. First, if you want to pull a big trailer, skip the 3.0L F150 and go for the 6.7L F250. Now you got something. Second, if you want to better fuel mileage, don't drive a truck. Third, if you do the math, you'll see that you probably won't realize enough saving on fuel to justify the additional cost of the diesel option. Forth, a diesel need to work, it needs long drives on a warm engine, making it a poor choice for city commuters going to the store for milk an eggs. Okay, that's all sound reasoning.

But here is the thing, today I had to get on it to merge into traffic, It was so smooth, getting up to speed so easy. If this engine proves to be durable, and this 10 speed transmission proves to be durable, then how cool is it to have an efficient engine connected to a transmission that is always in the right gear. The last time I felt this way about running errands with my truck was when I leased a manual 2 wheel drive XL with a V6 because a full tank went a long ways. Now I'm averaging 21 mpg and when its time to clean up the yard I can still load up the old dump trailer, pull it to the recycle center and empty it with the push of a button. You just gotta appreciate the God given talent that went into designing this power train. You don't have to get your boots dirty to drive this truck, but you can if you wan to.

All good points, I'd love to have one, but very impractical for the little driving I do.

If they are bulletproof, it should be lower maintenance over the long run.

That is a concern that I have. I do realize I need to drive this one more than any of the truck I've had in the past, but I think I can do that.
Our routine is to drive my wife's SUV. It gets 18 around town, and jumps to 21 when we venture out on long trips. That's not bad, but it requires premium gas. That has been okay for the past 14 years we've driven it, but now premium just keeps going up in price. It used to be a dime more than regular, but now it's more like 80 cents. Even when regular was down to 99 I was paying 1.69 for premium. Diesel is slowly dropping in price, and even though it's still higher than regular it is now lower than premium. I just want to drive. When we travel, we're taking the diesel.

The first week I had the diesel I woke up one morning, looked at my wife and asked: "Hey, you wanna drive to Alaska?" She's thinking about it. Stay tuned.
