Ram Guy Reconsidering Ford After All The Tranny Issues Here...Thoughts?

Hi, I'm Tom Ram Owner who was considering a move back to Ford
I found a truck I really like, and it has the 2.7 ecoboost with the 10 spd trans
I wanted Fords latest effort but now am not so sure after reading all the horror stories here
about the 10 spd tranny

Should I go ahead and buy the Ford, or stay with my tried and true 5.7 HEMI with the
8 spd 870 trans? I dont want to take the Ford back 10 times to fix...
Please...any thoughts?

I drive a 2014 Supercrew with the 3.7 V6 and 6 speed auto. The transmission in it is not flawless. But I've become accustom to clunk so it doesn't bother me. I was considering a 2019 Laramie but after researching the truck, I won' have one. They have just as many transmission issues as the Ford along with steering failure, electrical gremlins, and a list far too long for me to chance buy one. That covers the Ram for me. The F150 you're looking at I wouldn't trade my 2014 even up for it. The 2.7 in my opinion has been a failure and is in need of a complete redesign. You'll find far too many sitting on dealers lots waiting for new heads. The problem is defective valve guides which allows for a lousy idle and far too much oil usage. Parts to fix it are all but non-existing. The 10 speed auto is another one that you're either going to get accustomed to a lousy shifting transmission with a boatload of issues or you'll be looking for a new truck. Ford has been FAR too reluctant to fix it correctly for me to consider one. For an F150, the only engine that seems to not have many issues is the 3.5 EB engine. The 3.3 V6 is anemic at best and the 5.0 V8 has not been flawless either. Considering what a new truck costs these days, it shouldn't be a gamble to buy a new one, but that's just what it has become. For me, there is no truck out there that isn't having issues. GM is a joke mostly due to the transmission in the GM is the clone of the Ford. GM can't make it work either. And then there is the ever present GM driveline vibration. A mobile mechanic bud of mine just settled for $7500. due to the vibration on his 2018 Silverado. The 2019 is the same truck. The Titan is an incredible failure. I have a bud with one. Gas mileage is worse than a 2 ton truck I had. And his seems to live at the dealership for repairs. The Tundra is almost 20 years old now and is a known gas hog with body failures. So roll the dice and hope like crazy you don't get one of the junkers they're making these days. Thankfully, there's not a thing wrong with the tuck I have. That's what Ford quality was a few years back. Today, hopefully I never get so stupid to trade it off. Best of luck with the search and purchase. You're definitely going to need it.

WOW...I agree with you on the "New" 2019 Ram. They ALSO have a problem blowing cold air..(I drove 2...BOTH blew cool air not cold) Problem with the vents.

Wife Drives a 2010 Lincoln MKT with the 3,7 and 6 spd trans and it DOES clunk a little. But nothing terrible and NO issues in 40000 miles and the 3.7 is a great motor IMO

The 2013-2019 Gen 4 classic rams are decent trucks. I haven't had ANY issues with mine, the only reason I want to trade
is mine is a reg cab and want to at least get a quad or preferably a crew. You know, I think after reading this I may give Ford a pass and look for a low mile Ram Crew Cab. Sounds too much like work to buy a new one!

The later generation hemis in the RAMs have had roller lifter problems that wipe out the cam usually at farily high mileage, over 100k. I read that the lifters were changed in 2016 to a new design. I think I would choose a RAM over a Ford right now.

Well, I drove a new 2.7 ecoboost today, 2019 supercab 2wd

Decent truck, ran really good, good looking,
Nice chrome package and only 29,545 after rebates

THE SEATS ABSOLUTELY SUCKED ON IT
Too damn hard, they'll probably last 100 years
but the Ram has it in comfort level hands down
I'll keep the reg cab before buying a Ford with those seats
Maybe the higher end model seats are better?

Overall a nice truck, but the seats kept me out of it

So far, the only truck I will buy from Ford as of right now is a F-Superduty with the 6.7l. After driving many of them, I just love the way they handle, drive, and most importantly shift. The 6R140 to be the most refined automatic I've driven.

Went from a 2011 f150:screw 4x4 with 5.0 and 6 speed. This was a very good truck. Put 80k miles on it before trading for my current 2018 f150 XLT screw 4x4 3.5 and 10 speed. While there have been a few minor glitches “TSB’s” nothing significant has come up on the truck. Currently about 29k miles with about 3500 towing and 7k trailer. The v6 and 10 speed together truly make this a great ride. Power to perform whether pulling or just daily driving. Never really seems to be looking for another gear and the fuel mileage over my older f150 is about 20 percent better.
Ford makes thousands of trucks a week. What you hear on these sites typically are the folks who have had an issue. The numbers are minuscule. The latest generation motor and trans are excellent IMHO.

Thumbs up

2018 F-150 XL FX4 2.7L 10-Speed 7,900 miles and never had a problem. The 10-Speed Transmission shifts perfect. The 2.7L Engine has NOT used any oil between oil changes. 14.4 1/4 mile 5.9 0-60 All STOCK

rear window defogger quit and haven't fixed it yet other than that runs like a champ .. I say you go get one .. good vehicles

Yeah, but your 2013 has a 6 speed, not a 10 speed.
