Lets try this again.....

Just placed my order for a 2018 Lariat, 2WD, 157" WB, Crew Cab, 502A, Technology package, adaptive cruise, moon-roof, tailgate step.

I wanted a crew cab, but I needed the 6.5' box for my motorcycle lift

My dealer called today saying the order was placed but has not been picked up by Ford yet, hence no VIN. Hopefully tomorrow or next Tuesday (apparently they only do this on Tuesdays?).

Anyway, I guess I'm looking at 8-10 weeks?

 

Got the VIN today and checked the order system link for status. It's moving right along; says it was actually ordered on 04/09, it's currently in production with an estimated delivery of 5/21/2018. That's barely 6 weeks.

Ran into a glitch. One of the options I had ordered was the moon-roof, but apparently it is not on the build. Bummer! I was tracking the truck thru Ford, and today the window sticker was released; no moon-roof listed. I talked to the dealer, and unless there was some kind of restriction (like you can't have a moon-roof with a 157" WB) I'm looking at having to scrap this order and wait another 6-8 weeks for a new build. Dealer is still checking on it.

 

Do you really have to have the moonroof? There have been recurring issues with them making noise and leaking.

 

Need, No. Want; Yes. Unless the dealer makes a decent concession on the price (it's there mistake) I'm sticking with my original order and will just need to wait it out. My wife has a moon-roof in her 2017 Explorer Limited and it's been great.

 

OK, crisis averted. Apparently when the dealer originally placed my order they did leave off the moon-roof option. When they got the notification the order was picked up they noticed the error and immediately placed the corrected order. It was a timing issue when I had asked for the VIN so I could track it; I was just given the wrong one. I now have a new VIN and the ETA is now 28 days out (it was originally 23). All is good once again Funny thing is, the original VIN is now on the dealers website as 'coming soon'.

 

Quicker than I thought. I checked the Ford site last night and it said it was delivered on 6/1/2018. I expect I will hear from the dealer today (6/2). Guess I just need to pay for it now

 

Marty get the Ford pass App on your phone. And punch in the vin number then you will be able to track the Trucks location if it moves from the dealers lot. its a pretty cool app I was able to track my truck at the dealer ship Before i owned it at one point it was next door at an another dealers lot getting detailed. I asked when i went to pick it up why was it next door LOL All the Best Dan

 

I download the APP, but when I try to add the VIN it says 'server is busy'. I'll give it another try tomorrow. Thank for the tip by the way!

 

You realize you can get a super crew with the 6.5' bed, right?

 

Of course, that is what I ordered; S-Crew, 6.5 box, Lariat, 502A, Moonroof, Tech Package, Adaptive Cruise and the tailgate step.

It came in last Friday, I'll pick it up on Tuesday.


Just for the heck of it, I did check and the 6.5 box is the largest with the S-Crew F150. You can get the 8' box with a super cab though

 

I see the confusion; my original post made it sound like I wanted the S-Crew but could not get it. What I really meant was I could not find one (S-Crew, 6.5box) on any dealers lot near me; hence ordering.

Yeah, that wasn't abundantly clear, gotcha.

In 2015 when I got mine, they were rare as unicorn, at any trim level until very late in the 2015 production run, I couldn't order because it was past the 2015 order deadline (some time in late june or july) so I just had to keep waiting for them to show up on lots, I kept checking ford online inventory and finally found mine. It has most of what I was looking for, except the big gas tank, and 3.55 lockable rear diff (ended up with a 3.31), but have been VERY happy with the truck. Don't like the idea of a 10 speed, seems to be a real turd. Test drove one and wasn't impressed.
