New member, new truck, check engine light
I bought my 2015 F150 XLT 2.7 eco Supercrew with trailering package in April. I've driven the hell out of it (15,000 miles, 1500 of that towing a 19 foot bay boat) and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Until now..... When towing my boat last week, I accelerated to pass a slower vehicle (they were going 55 in a 75). When I put my foot into it to pass, the engine revved up but the truck didn't accelerate, then the engine sputtered and almost died as I eased off onto the shoulder. The check engine light came on, but when I turned the motor off and restarted, everything was fine and it has run fine ever since.
When I started the truck yesterday, the check engine light came on. I went straight to the dealer, who diagnosed it as a failing torque converter. They are ordering the part, and will put it in next week, but say the truck is okay to drive at this time.
My concern is, why would the torque converter of a truck with a tow rating of 7600 pounds fail at 15,000 miles when towing a relatively light load (<3000 pounds) on the flat Gulf Coast. Why would I expect the replacement to fare any better when I plan to upgrade to a bigger (5000 pound) boat in the near future. I read a post in another thread about reusing bolts and not re-tuning the drive shaft after torque converter replacement. Is this something I should bring up to the service adviser at the dealership?

That sounds more like the throttle body issue a few others have had. It seems like there was a bad batch of throttle bodies that made it into production. http://www.f150forum.com/f118/2016-f...akdown-347454/
