Sync3 and AppLink

I have seen a lot of discussions about this and a lot of misinformation from Ford.

I have a new 2016 F150 with Sync3 and Nav that was built on June 9th. I have been told all sort of things but have had to go with trial and error.

First, Android Auto and Apple Car Play still do not work. Actually a lot of the functions that I have read or been told do not work.

AppLink only seems to work with about 7 apps. A couple of them are Fords own apps. Even NPR One and Domino's which are in the marketing do not work.
My BlackBerry works with AppLink but my husbands Nexus doesn't. But his Nexus works fine with everything else that works.

The voice controls seem to mostly work. I hate voice controls and speaker phones so I am not a good one for this. My husband has liked them.

The Nav system has been improved and is my favorite so far across everything.

I had a hard time connecting to our WiFi for updates but it finally does seem to be set. I tried getting help from Ford and wasted my time with someone who knew less than me. They had no idea what a MAC address was and kept confusing WiFi with BlueTooth.

There is a lot of confusion about what can be done through BlueTooth, WiFi, or the USB connection. We are still working this out. We have found a lot of the info from Ford to be wrong about these. Most phone functions seem to be going through Bluetooth, even some that are listed as needing a USB connection.

I have had a horrible time getting any info through FordPass or FordOwner apps. They would just give me info I entered into the app or web site. Just an hour ago, I finally got one to tell me how much gas I have. When the truck starts the Ford apps stop with a message that I am moving and the app will resume when the truck stops moving. I get this message in my driveway with the Truck in Park and the parking brake on.

That is all I can think of for now.

Hi bs03,

I’m happy to help smooth out some confusion about the SYNC 3 features. The Apple Carplay and Android Auto features will be available on your system after the update gets released, which will be this year. Also, using AppLink requires an Apple or Android platform and it works different with the devices. Plenty of helpful information can be found here: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-t...150&sync=sync3

Also, I will lis the compatible apps below:
Allergy Alert (Apple only)
Accuweather (Apple only
Pandora
iHeartRadio for Auto
Domino’s Pizza
MLB.com at Bat - version 5.2 or higher
Radio Disney (Apple only)
Glympse
Slacker Radio
FordPass

The Wi-Fi feature is only used to for SYNC updates: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-t...150&sync=sync3

Also, the Bluetooth and USB options provide different experiences. While the Bluetooth is for handling calls and other phone features, it can also be used for media like the USB connection. You can find more details here: http://owner.ford.com/how-tos/sync-t...150&sync=sync3

I’m glad to hear that you are enjoying the Navigation system, but can you tell me what isn’t working for you with the Ford Owner and FordPass apps? I’m here to help as much as I can!

From what I heard, Apple car play and android auto should be standard across the board on all 17's with sync 3. Eventually they will release an update for older models to enable those features.

Given Ford's history, you won't see the update until all the 17's are on the lots. Since the F150's are the last to hit the lots, don't expect them to start arriving until mid November. So I would not expect to see the update until sometime between turkey day and new years.

Hey 05RedFX4,

You will receive a notification when the update is released; just make sure that you have a Ford Owner account: https://owner.ford.com/tools/account...p-to-date.html
