So I just sold my 2010 XLT 2WD. I had a 2" level with 285/65-18's on it. I loved it, but on my soon to be purchased 2016 4WD, I am not sure I want to level the front end. I am assuming the 285/65-18's will work just fine no rubbing? What about 20's? I believe comparable would be 285/55-20? Would the 65's rub?

 

I installed 275-70/18 on mine before I leveled it, plenty of room and they are very close in size to the 285-65/18.. You should be fine

I have owned pickup trucks since 1978 and I don't understand the concept or benefit of leveling. What is the purpose?

 

Give the truck a level stance, as the rear is higher than the front in stock form to account from expected loads.
