Am I missing something ?

Just took delivery of my new 2016 Lariat this week. On the new tailgates there is no more handle just a button that triggers a solenoid that opens the tailgate.

My question is if my battery goes dead and I need my jumper cables out of the box of the truck for example, is there a "back door" way of opening the gate should there be no power to the truck ?

Thanks

I doubt it. The trunk on ford cars and hatch on SUV's has had the button only since 2012 that I know of, maybe earlier.

Maybe the trucks are just getting to complicated.

I just read your owner's manual, and it does not appear that there is a way to open the electronic tailgate manually.

Give your local Fire Department a call, they will be more than happy to cut the tailgate off for you.

I have an XLT, and it's a handle.
