Tire question

Been looking at the build options on the 2016 4X4. I notice that the tires are available in sizes ranging from LT245/70R17E up to 275/55R20.

Over the last 15 years with my 01 supercrew, I have seen that the single biggest item affecting gas mileage is the size and weight of tires. So my question is: Other than looks, can anyone offer up a good reason to not go with the smallest and lightest wheel/tire combo available? I notice that none of the tire choices alter tow rating or epa ratings shown on the website.

Thanks.

EDIT: Also, my experience has been that the loss of torque from larger tires offroad has been a bigger detriment to forward progress than any gain in ground clearance has helped. Talking mostly mud.

I tend to run MTRs during the winter months, but otherwise will say as close to stock diameter as possible. I'm way over the big tire thing on a PU and save it for the hotrod these days, however, if there are any reasons I'm not considering...

Start looking at the tires in rim sizes available to see the tire weights.
