I wouldn't want a 10 speed, nor would I want to pay for a new one or rebuild when they don't last as long as a 6 or less speed. I don't like that Ford and GM are working together to make a similar or identical trans that will be in both company's trucks. Make your own motor with your own testing and your own research, and do the same for every other component. But if that's what they have to do to keep up with BS gov't mpg policies, I guess it's alright. They've already gone up close to 30-40% in half tons in a few years, and more than doubled in the last 2 decades

Didn't everyone say that when they went from 4 to 6spd?

6 speeds are still reasonable, and though not in automatics, have been around in manuals for quite some time, 10 is ridiculous and add a lots of complications. We'll see, but I predict issues with early ones not lasting as long as they should and being expensive to replace. The 6 speed autos haven't even been around for that long

Semi tractors that travel our great land hauling all our goods 24 hours a day have upwards of 12 or more gears.

Point taken, as many have more than 12, but how much do they cost? Quite a bit I'm sure.

I doubt that will be the case with Ford's 1/2 ton trucks.

Like Dodges ZF 8 speed it'll skip gears most likely. Only using some gears for sweet spot downshifts or using more gears during towing. Main thing is you can run a 3.08 or less gear with a 10 speed and have the same take off power as a 4.10 with the 4speed 4r75. Then great highway mpg.

Sharing technologies saves money..........With a 10+ speed we will be getting closer to CVT tech, I like it.

Give me a C6 and I will be happy. More than 4 speeds is ridiculous. I dont like the ****ing things shifting all the time and hell if they break

This is the greatest upside, and it exciting for sure. I don't doubt that this is the future for automobiles, specifically trucks. It's needed to meet fuel usage standards and provides the opportunity to have the "best of both worlds" with power and MPG. I'm just old school and would rather have something less efficient, but simple, dependable, and easy to fix. I want to start my truck up every morning and know that it's going to get me where I need to go almost every time. I don't think any new vehicle is going to be easy to keep on the road for a long time with all the very expensive technology in them.

I never put plays together with my rivals while playing high school football simply because it made it easier to share ideas and would work as long as we weren't playing each other. It's almost monopolistic. It makes each brand less unique and brand loyalty harder to care about when they're all the same. All 3 new trucks already have the same exact basic look of a smashed up bulldog front end and similar body lines, ripped off of Dodge.

My exact thought and point. I like feeling shifts. I like hearing the rise and fall of RPMs as a vehicle goes through the gears. Dual clutch transmissions pull like electric cars, and I hate it personally.

All I'll say is if anyone has a 5.0 they can back me up. The 3 to 1 downshift that the new trucks make when coming to a stop makes your hair stand up. It burbles like a 4v 4.6 on my brothers truck with the Roush Exhaust I'm all for the higher gear trannys as long as they skip gears.

10 gears in a pick up seems a bit rash. The 6 speed is quite adequate but low is slow and shifting to pass and the RPM'S that result are rash. Going from 50 mph down into third leaves a winding, smoking 7000 rpm's quite often. Stepping down on the gas slower gives a better, more adequate 4th gear shift and better rpm distribution. I believe there is more to gain with a better Trans software control than adding more shifts to the transmission.
